power steering fluid input
What does anyone recommend for power steering fluid.
Type F, dexron, or power steering fluid. I am sick about the headaches of my steering since replacing parts. As a kid, I just put it together and added fluid. This build, I used prestone with all new components, and I still have a whine, Bubbles in the fluid. Today i am going to disassemble, flush and install new o-rings. I am thinking about going with the old tried and true tranny fluid. All input is appreciated. Chris |

If i remember right I had to jack up the front and turn wheel back and forth to rid the problems of bubbles and such....when I installed a new pump....

I have done that, And i thought it was all good, and not the bubbles are back. It is a long shot, but maybe an o-ring is introducing air into the system. |

I clicked "other" and then realized dextron is ATF. I just use ATF.

Power steering fluid has additional additives to aid in seal life, is less prone to aeriation and overall is more designed for the cicrumstances to which it operates. ATF is suitable in a pinch but as a rule of thumb, avoided in power steering systems. Try jacking the front end up and moving the wheels lock to lock multiple times with the reservoir full. Do not turn the steering wheel to accomplish the movement of lock to lock. Grab one of the front wheels and physically muscle it lock to lock. This relieves pressure on the control valve and will aid in removal of and trapped air....
