Need some 73-87 front end (disc brake) info

Planning on upgrading our 61 apache to disc brakes. I have read the conversion several times, and have a lead on a 73-87 front end (2wd).
My question is, do all 73-87 1/2 ton models have a 5 lug rotor? My current wheel set up is 6 lug. Can I buy 6 lug rotors? Perhaps some spacers/adapaters.

Any info is helpful.
Thanks,
Glenn

Re: Need some 73-87 front end (disc brake) info

I think they do. Most people want the 5 lug anyway. Just finished my conversion from 4wd to 73 2wd. The 73's also came with a 1.25" rotor (HD) so make sure when you get parts that you measure the rotor width. Parts add up quick so check it out good. I don't trust spacers. I prefer stock setups that can be fixed by going to the local parts store. Swapping your rear over may be a challenge though as I think yours is smaller in width than most 5 lug rears but someone here can help you there too.

Im getting a complete front end from rotor to rotor out of AZ. IF I can buy a 6 lug rotor and it will slide on my spindles sounds like Ill be ok. Thanks for the info. The truck has a long way to go, as we just painted the frame to nights ago.
Do you happen to konw the width of a 73/87 front axle?

Glenn

What measurements do you need? I have mine down to the frame now too. Engine and tranny are in. But might be able to get some good measurements still.

Yes you can buy bolt on 6 lug rotors......as long as your 73-87 clip has the 1 1/4" wide brake rotors. You must measure. Some 73-87 trucks used the skinny 1 inch wide rotors.

If yours use the wider rotors, call up Early Classic Enterprises or one of the other suspension places and order the rotors. They are the rotors that come in the conversion kits for early trucks.

As others said, yes you can buy the 6 lug rotor. It's the same rotor as the 5 lug (1.25")only drilled for 6 lugs back at the manufactuer.

There are two ways to resolve your issue. You can buy 6 lug rotors as mentioned, or redrill or replace the rear axles. It really depends on what bolt pattern you want to run.

Re: Need some 73-87 front end (disc brake) info

jjzepplin,

I need a measurement the width track, rotor hub to rotor hub, where the wheel seats to rotor when the wheel is on the truck. trying to figure out if i can keep my 2009 chevy suburban 6 lug wheels. I just bought and had tires mounted to.

Thanks,
Glenn

Re: Need some 73-87 front end (disc brake) info

I was able to buy some at a swap meet (new in box) 6 lug drilled and slotted. They were in CPP boxes incase anyone needs this info in the future.
