latch spring

on a 72 does it have a hood spring that pops the hood up when you pull the latch,if it does is where is it,on the latch or on the hood latch bolt,thanks

No spring on the latch. It pops because of tension on the hood hinge springs.

There is a spring that helps return the latch to the latched position after it is pulled.

^ Yes. If your hood doesn't pop up an inch or so when you release the latch, try some light oil (WD-40 will work) on all the hood hinge pivot points.
