I'm working out the traction problems in my '68 c10 lwb 2wd and thought i would try this board for suggestions. I just swapped in a hot 350/350 combo in my truck. I relocated the gas tank to the bed, installed a detroit locker and 4:10's, and i just put on 15.50 micky thomson sportsmans on the back. the tires made a lot of difference but i still smoke 'em off the line and in the upper rpm's of first. What can i do to get the tires stick better? its got coil springs all the way around, all stock. id liketo drop the truck some but not too much 'cause i have headers and exhaust hanging down. Oh yea, its my daily driver.

the sportsman are ok....I use the MT E/T streets they hook with over 500HP. Im using the 28x11.5x15...If you lower the tire pressure it may help...also if you heat them up real good...B4 you need to get on it..it should help

are you using stock rear coils? you need to change to a softer spring so that the weight will transfer easier. you could also change to coilovers if you want it adjustable.

yea. its stock coils right now. I was just thinking, i dont have the tail gait, rear bumper, or the spair tire on the truck right now. That could be close to 200lbs of weight from the back end I'm missing.

every 100lbs is worth a tenth in the 1/4...the right tires will do the trick

I'm in south Ft Myers. i agree with putting on some et streets but ill have to get a seperate pair of rims for criuzin so i dont get caught in the afternoon showers everyday this summer(this place is a freekin swamp). the thing is though when i ran the fuel lines i set it all up for a mild shot of nitrous, i need a hell of a lot more traction than what i got now. im still a little shocked how easy i can spin those 15.50's with a locked up axle

I would change your rear end gear ratio. I have the same problem with my 4.10's but i have a hot 454 in my 67 lwb. Whats sad is my friend has 68 swb stepside with a 305 and 3.07's and he launch is a lot better than mine but a pass him like he is standing still after a block when tires stop spinning so hard.

I know a guy that has put a piece of railroad track welded in the back of his bed. That runs 11's, in a 81 3/4 ton with 454 granny 4 spd and 4.10's.

I am lookin for me a piece of railroad iron. But found some tractor wieghts that should do the trick.

try changing the rear end gears to either 3.23, 3.42 or 3.73.. 4.10's are a little too low for any Auto tranny, 3.23 or 3.42 will help eliminate some of your tires spinning, if you were to go with either a 700R4, then 3.23 or 3.42 will also help with giving better gas mileage and still be fast as hell off the line.. I have 3.73 w/ TH400 in 68 and anything more then a 1/4 throttle and my rear wheels will spin for days... Since you have moved the gas tank that should help with traction as well... Try putting the rear bumper back on and the Tail Gate and see if that helps with Traction.. If you want to keep 4.10s then get either a BorgWarner or Tremec T56 (Manual 6 Speed) from Vettes, Fbodys, Viper and Rustang Cobra are a perfect combo...

Now on the other hand if you don't mind you can go with either a 3.07/3.08 or 2.73 Gears and hook even better but considering, I would not do 2.73 unless you were putting a 700r4 and a 3200 Stall TC, then you will not having any problems with Spinning your rear tires.. My 02 Z has 4L60E and 2.73 and if I 1/2 throttle it off the line my rear tires on that will spin like crazy considering on that car I have 245/50ZR16 Good Year Eagle GSCs (came from the factory as an option which are OEM for my car)...

Tell me about no traction! With my setup (mild 355/TH350/4.11 Pegleg) with 28x10x17" rear tires, that one tire will spin like a MOFO from a dead stop! Hopefully, when I swap to a 3.73 Posi, and make some custom trac-bars, I'll be able to hook up and possibly run a 1.80 60'

i dropped the tire pressure to 11 psi in back, that helped a lot. i think if i mess with the springs and weights i can whip the problem. i put my truck on the scale, 3,840 lb with a full tank. not bad for a long bed. 4:10s are a little low, but man, 2nd kicks hard all through the rpms.

great thread guys just what i was looking for. I have a wild sb400 and th350 with a 3.07 one legger in the rear in my 71 c-10 and coils all the way around. I cant get any bite off the line on street tires. I also have no tailgate, bumper, or spear tire!LOL

what can i do....I really need help on this.

hey im actually having pretty good luck with the 15.50 sportsmans at low pressure, locker and fuel cell in back. i can tell my traction isnt as good with an empty tank though. i think the e/t streets like Bigjimzll said would help out a lot,and some softer springs. i'd say im pushin about 360 hp,400lb torque in the fresh roller motor
