Has anyone ever painted the letters on their grilles themselves? Anyone got pics? Did it turn out well?

I did, 2 weeks ago, and it turn out great! Sorry no pics. My lettering and border were really fade, and painting it brought it out. I used a small artist brush and satin paint from a can(sprayed paint into the cap). The borders... mask off paint lines and removed sighnal lights.

I masked mine off, & painted with black Hammertite. Did the letters, the lines, & also the headlight rings. I dont have any pics , but I think it turned out pretty decent

I bought a set of these decals about five years ago. They still look pretty good.

The decals are the way to go! I used them on my repro grill surround (the one without the stamped letters) and unless your right up to it, you can't even tell.

I masked mine off and shot it with a satin black rattle can, looks great, its the only way to go.

I think i'll go Rattle can Satin but being repro grilles are a bit different then original ones would after market decals size up?

Hmm prolly a couple hours. Its best if you go around the edges with the really thin green tape, 1/4" I think then but up to that with the thicker tape. The thin tape is much easier to bend. If you take your time masking it off it will pay off in the end and look like it came from the factory that way.

I doubt if the factory was real careful when they sprayed these.

The decals are made for the original grill surrounds so should fit perfectly. Sure beats spending a few hours taping them off.

But it's your time....

It would be interesting to see how they did these things at the factory, on grilles, hubcaps etc. I have actually found that they did a half decent job. Has anyone ever tried to paint a hubcap 3 different colors. It ain't easy.
