Windlace install ??

OK, are there any tricks to installing windlace. Mine is the type that needs to slide into a track around the door opening.

I only messed with it for a minute but it sure seemed like it is going to be tough. I was thinking soapy water or a little WD-40 might help.

Let me know if there are any tricks.

Thanks in advance
Marc

Re: Windlace install ??

I used soapy water on one side, pushed and pulled and after what seemed like forever, finally got it all in. It made a mess and my hands were killing me. The other side I just used a flat bladed screw driver and went around pushing the rubber into the metal trim and was done in less then 10 minutes.

Good luck.

Re: Windlace install ??

One of those plastic tools they sell for pushing windshield rubber in or out would work pretty well to push it in or a wide blade flat tip screw driver out of the cheap tool rack that you have rounded and smoothed the tip on to make a special tool out of it if you don't want to poke the material with a screwdriver. Start at a bottom corner and tuck a few inches of the windlace into the slot and then roll the other edge in the slot with the tool and repeat until you have it done.

Re: Windlace install ??

We used to use a flattened out spoon from the chow hall to install the weather strip on F-18's. Should be about the same difference I'd think.
