Longbed vs Fleetside

I have a '68 LWB C10 and I am looking at replacement panels on LMC for the bed. There are choices between "Longbed" and "Fleetside".

What is the difference?

Re: Longbed vs Fleetside

Ummm, unless something has changed....fleetside is a standard bedside, be it long or short. Otherwise you get a Stepside....long or short.

Re: Longbed vs Fleetside

that is what I thought. You either have a fleetside or a stepside, and either LWB or SWB.

Re: Longbed vs Fleetside

Make sure someone isn't confusing the terms "Longbed" and "Longhorn".

There IS a difference... of about half a foot.

Re: Longbed vs Fleetside

Step away from the LMC . At least, what are ya going to do? They printed a mistake in their book and calling to ask won't get you anywhere. Best to go elsewhere. Fleetside or longbed makes no sense.

Both Stepside and Fleetside are standard. They are their own model and the same goes for long or short. The only option is wood floor in a Fleetside. The Stepsides are standard,or base,if you go by cost. The cheapest midel would be a 6cyl SWB Stepside, which is why the Govt trucks were that model...lowest bid.

I find shortbeds to be too short and stubby. I like them long and low.

Just a piece of advise...

I see you blasting your opinion all over the place when none were asked for. Here on this site we are asked only offer opinions when asked for. The rule of thumb (and an actually rule we all agreed to when registering here) here is if you don't like what you see move on. There's a little wiggle room with that, and you'll find me there. But generally, that's how we roll. We are a group of (a lot of) friends here,so remember you're talking about their trucks when you say "just plain ugly"..

Oh,and here are some just plain ugly trucks for your eyes

Re: Longbed vs Fleetside

I too prefer SWB trucks as far as lowered/customs go, I also prefer stepsides. I don't bash anyones preference or truck as each is individual to the persons tastes/budget, here is mine in all it's calico, primer and rust, another reason I can't talk S^#t. I suggest you post a pic of your truck so we can see what edge you have, what with your negative comments you must have something better than everyone else.

Re: Longbed vs Fleetside

here is what I need to fix. Not the best pics but you get the idea.

I am thinking of doing the entire side, fender, door skin, and bedside. It is really only hurt up to the wheelwell. After that, no damage. And there is a big price difference between buying the little piece at the bottom of the bedside and the entire bedside.

Re: Longbed vs Fleetside

Yeah, that's pretty bad... you're in texas... don't you guys have clean longbeds cluttering up the junkyards down there?

In all seriousness... given your location, I'd look for a new bedside, or a whole new bed. Without a tailgate, I've seen some nice longbeds go for $2-400.

Re: Longbed vs Fleetside

I wish, I have been to probably 10 different yards on the north side of Houston and have seen 1, and it was a stepper.

If any other Texans know of one sitting around in a yard, I don't mind driving. Have trailer will travel.
