The last 5 years has been good to these trucks!

5 years ago, I had never owned a 60-66, and frankly almost never saw them at any of the bigger shows or magazines, aside from those submitted by members. While the AD trucks and square bodies were everywhere, our trucks seemed often overlooked.

Then something changed; I don't know what....maybe scarcity of the "traditional" hot rodding and muscle platforms, or simply a growing appreciation for the deco styling and somewhat unusual body lines. I'm not sure really, but I know that they started to pop up here and there.

I picked mine up in 2009, and since then I've started to see them more and more. From the larger "chain" shows like Goodguys, down to the corner-store cruise ins. Then I started to see more magazine build coverage, features on automotive TV, and way more *thumbs up*

While this may all seem like random banter, I simply felt it was nice to see some more broad-spectrum appreciation for the trucks that we know and love.

Yes we`ve gained a lot more covereage and appreaciation even in the price of a so called builder....!

They were the ugly step sister for so long but I have always preferred this style. I like what other people don't usually. I drove my suburban home in 98 and have had a few since then.

I started into this series near 30 years ago. I thought the 67-72 series was boring and the earlier 55-59 lack luster except for the Cameo's.

For me it was being different, around DFW there are tons of nice trucks, from squares to TRI-5's to AD and especially the 67-72 trucks, all of which I liked but when I found this old guy, it was love at first sight. You rarely saw a 60-66 and when you did it was in a field waiting to disintegrate. Now they are more popular in part because the cost of buying one of the other years and also because the aftermarket has noticed them and are making parts now.

Two words guys - Twilight and Age.

I hate the series, but that Twilight series turned a horde of young guys and girls on to our trucks. The guys saw a cool truck with character and the girls were drooling over them so yeah. Enough said there.

Age is a different issue. Alot of guys that grew up learning to drive on these trucks are getting older now and nostalgic. They realize they only have a few more good working years left in them (statistically) and they want to relive that part of their lives. In my book that's the best kind of appreciation because it's a pure love of the truck and the memories of yesteryear.

The rest of us just kinda got bit by the bug and would have regardless of the other two.

Anyway, that's my take on it. Either way the end result is pretty danged awesome. More trucks saved from the scrapper

the insurance company will allow you to insure one of these to over 20k$, if that says anything.

These trucks were always my favorite because I loved the way they looked and drove, and they were cheap and nobody wanted them. Back in the day, trucks were used as workhorses, and most of them were beat to death. It wasn't until 1973 that Chevy started making trucks that were heavily optioned, and that started the trend where people were buying trucks and not using them as work trucks. When that body style came out in 1973, every Chevy truck before that suddenly became a step sister, and while the '47-'55 and the '67-'72 trucks eventually caught fire, it has taken forever for the '60-'66 to get some love. I've never understood why.

I'm both happy and sad to see the '60-'66 trucks get popular. The days of buying them cheap and finding lots of cheap parts may be over, and that makes me sad.
