water pump
what would make a water pump come lose. It was tighted to the torque specs.. 72 k20 350/205/sm465. man i throught i blew a head gasket. somthing i dont want to hear right now..

perhaps a cheap failed gaskets(i had this happen once when i use the crappy gaskets that came with the wp) worn bolts or threads or a balance problem hanging off the front of the pump

Gasket or sealer may compress resulting in loose bolts.
RTV makes cleaning flanges easier; but RTV increases chance of needing to re-torque. I assemble ASAP with a thin wet film of RTV is between gasket and flanges. I prefer thread sealer that allows re-torque; but is more likely to back out if gasket compresses. Perhaps permatex hi-tack is a good compromise because it sets up slowly giving some time for re-torque but kinda locks bolt over time. |
