1970 C/30 step side looking for inspiration.
Just picked up a 1970 C/30 long bed step side. It has a 350 4 speed p/b p/s. I like it alot just cause of the 1 ton part. Wife likes the stepside :-) everybody happy happy. Is this a rare truck? Can I see some others? First is disc brakes poss. from 93 3500. Then a nice ls motor.

Re: 1970 C/30 step side looking for inspiration.
Welcome to the board.
The C30 stepsides are not exactly rare as they built a fair number of them. But being the work truck they are attrition has taken its toll and I suspect many have been parted to provide for the more popular of the series. Good luck with your project and remeber many of the bed parts are specific to the truck and very hard to find. Now post up some pictures and if you don't mind the SPID too.

If you haven't read through Lolife99's brake advice you are missing out.

Welcome to the board. Not too rare but not too common. 2101 nine foot stepsides built in 1970.

Not too rare in 1970 but definitely rare now and especially for where you are. I see more big block shortbed Cheyenne Supers than C/30 Stepsides. I'd love to see pictures. Looks good in your avatar

Re: 1970 C/30 step side looking for inspiration.
Ill get some this weekend. Just curious did all C/30 trucks
come with the 4.57 rear reguardless of engine size? Read 1 forum that said 350 400 &396 engines got 4.10s? Not that I'm gonna swap out the ho 72 cause its too cool!! Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by 88lsiroc; 04-16-2013 at 08:29 AM. Reason: That nifty spellcheck. |

Re: 1970 C/30 step side looking for inspiration.
I believe the automatic trans would come with 4.10 and you also could have ordered that ratio with any combination. GM may have restricted that, though. Don't have that info in front of me right now. Do you know the HO52 shares the exact same differential? It would still be a genuine HO72 if you were to swap a 4.10 unit from an HO52. This requires no special gear set-up,just pull entire unit from the front and pop in your truck (axles just need pulled back to disengage)

Re: 1970 C/30 step side looking for inspiration.
4.10 gears may have been stock in your truck. Need to dig out the 70 powertrain charts and get them posted up too (this 71 is probably very close). http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...2&postcount=17
But from the factory 4.10and 4.57 were pretty much the range on srw C20s or C30s. Like Tim said if you have the 4.57 a HO52 or HO72 centersection is a direct swap.

Too funny, Thanks for trying so hard.
The primary SPID thread is probably this one. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=5981270 But if you have a solid, beltless Cheyenne or CST post pictures (truck and SPID) here too. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=552223

I like the color. Everyone now is going for the LS Motors. My LT1 makes alot of horsepower.
