Headlight adjusters

Does anyone have a good picture of how the plastic headlight aim adjusters fit on a 63 grill?

I dont think mine are installed correctly or I have the wrong adjusters and springs to begin with...

Thanks.

They just press into the grill.

From the front or the rear? I tried to push in from the front and they pop right back out when there is any pressure applied.

Re: Headlight adjusters

Hmmmm...i"ll have to look when I get home, I want to say they come through from the back. When I polished my 63 aluminum grill I replaced all the springs/plastic parts, just cant remember which way the went in (front or back). If no one post between now and 7pm on it, I can let you know tonight. Are they new or old ones. I put in new parts and they were pretty tight. Also....make sure to have the correct year parts. I know there were some differences on some of the other years in design. 62-68 should be the same from what I see.

Re: Headlight adjusters

1963 C10,
thanks, i appreciate the info and the effort. I think the plastic pieces you posted are the ones I have but the springs don't look like the springs I saw on the classic parts website. Don't think they are available at a local parts stores either but if the springs are wrong, they may be placing too much pressure on the bucket and pulling the plastic inserts out of the holes.

I will tear into this on the weekend and see what parts I have and what I need.

Re: Headlight adjusters

These are what the proper springs look like. Should be 1 per headlight. The long straight shank on the spring will slide into a groove in the headlight bucket. I can get pics tonight for you.

Re: Headlight adjusters

Looking back at some pics, Im pretty sure they go in from the front. and sit flush w/the tab hanging out the backside. The spring will fit into the circular part that you see in the pic (just on the front, not the back) you can see the straight part of the spring sticking through. Ill double check on the plastic adjuster tabs tonight.

Re: Headlight adjusters

looked at my donar grill that i polished up. i took pics before disassembly and they were installed from the rear, which is the way i reassembled it. i counted the number of turns coming out to go back in, figured it'd give me a baseline at least until i installed and got to a shop to adjust properly.

Re: Headlight adjusters

Any one know of a source for the plastic pieces on 60-61 grill? Mine look like the one above, but plastic is stripped, not allowing adjustment.

This is a little unorthodox, but i've used the license plate retaining plastic inserts to great success. I can take a picture here pretty soon and post it.

Do a search on our forum. I recall a recent write-up where a poster used some year Corvette mounting plastics on a GMC to great success and good fit. Was a good writeup--with pics!

...when things work as well as these, I'd call it ingenuity--NOT unorthodox! Not even mentioned was the cost difference.

I bought all my headlight adjusting parts from Chevy Duty (ClassicParts.com). Here’s the link to the 58-61 adjusters:

And this is the link to the screws:

They also carry the adjuster nuts for the 62-68 models:
