03 2500 HD Rear Grease on Rotor
Hello:
2003 GMC 2500 HD 8.1 4x4 4.10 rear. Smelled the smell of hot rear differential grease. looked on my rotor and it is seeping out the axle tub and being slung on rotor. I looked at service manual it has one seal at the back of the rotor which they say is bad. 1 inner bearing and keeper and 1 outer bearing and keeper. Lock nut with a wedge keeper. I haven't done one of these in many many years. I know remove caliper unbolt the axle. Take off the lock nut. will everything come off with the rotor. I planned to replace all the inners since I had it off. Question is are the bearings pressed in or anything or will they come out easy like the older trucks. Looking to do this myself but if it needs special tools etc I won't Any help or advice is greatly appreciated |

Re: 03 2500 HD Rear Grease on Rotor
The bearings are not pressed in. They will come right out. The only tool you might need is the socket to fit on the spindle nut. It's not necassary for removal but it is necassary to properly adjust the bearings.
