This whole radiator swap thing...

So I have a 82 gmc c1500 with a 305 and a leaky radiator. I was thinking about changing the core supports with the bb supports to mount the larger radiator. So I question you thusly;

1. Is it just a case of changing the supports and installing the new radiator or do I need to also replace the fan shroud?

2. Will all my existing hoses work?

3. Is it worth the swap for the money, or should I just buy a radiator to fit my existing set up?

The reason I'm thinking I might need the extra cooling is that I'm in Texas, this truck is my DD, I drive 30 minutes to work and 30 minutes back five days a week, and summer looms ominously on the horizon.

Your expert advice is greatly appreciated and eagerly awaited.

Fake edit - I'm sorry, as always, if this question has been asked to death. I promise I searched!

Why would it be throwing money away?

Re: This whole radiator swap thing...

because a 25 bucks junkyard pull would do the job fine.. no muss no fuss.

plus you have a 4 speed.. that keeps a lot of heat out of the cooling system.

Re: This whole radiator swap thing...

Mmmkay. I'll stick with the set up I have then.

Just trying to keep the old girl happy. I don't mind paying a little extra if it's worth it but if it's not I've definitely got other things I need to spend money on. Thanks.
