modified lca's (crazy?)
im keeping drum in all 4 corners so no drop spindles are availible
im trying to stay away from z'ing my frame till way later the front is bagged with plates and cups cups are 1.5" and there is already a little bag rub so i dont want to go lower i was thinking of chopping the control arm up and cupping it but... moving the balljoint up 2" basically z the control arm does this seem crazy iv got plenty of fab skill to attempt it but do you think it will mess up the geometry and performance of the suspension??? im thinking that if i do all this it willl get me to lay crossmember( an extra 5")

Re: modified lca's (crazy?)
It can be done as 'old school' guys did it that way once upon a time before drop spindles existed.
It will mess w/the geometry & the a-arm 'pocket' will smack something hard sooner or later & it wont be good when it happens. Why not spindles & discs to improve safety?

Re: modified lca's (crazy?)
I think that keeping 4 wheel drums on a truck is crazy if you ever plan on driving the thing...but I hate drums.
And the fact that if you do that and crash it, your insurance company CAN drop you and sue you for the total amount of all medical and legal damages. It might seem a bit sensationalistic, but they can actually use the modified suspension as reasonable doubt of the condition of the safety and integrity of the vehicle...this is especially true if its licensed and insured as a regular or collector vehicle, without special annotations like "hobbyist, street modified, etc" in which you have additional coverage for special modifications. Not trying to stop you, but I've seen the unfortunate side of things at times.

Re: modified lca's (crazy?)
That's my only downfall is I don't want to do disk, and there is not drop spindles for drum which is why I was thinking of lifting the lower ball joint
And probably pie cut the upper so the upper joint doesn't bind I know you all are thinking I'm crazy keeping drum but I'm not worried about stopping power since I don't have the tire to stop me anyways If you know what your doing drum works great I left four 20ft skid marks when someone decided to backup without reverse lights, so it stops plenty good for a tank lol I'm just trying to work with what I have and make a true ratrod Everything is homemade I take a lot of pride in my fabrication and I'm sure I can figure something out to lay xmember without major mods Posted via Mobile Device

Re: modified lca's (crazy?)
Its cool bro, thats just a touchy subject around here. I see your an auto tech by trade so you already know how important it is to address mechanical issues with safety in mind. I just encourage you to keep the same mentality you must have with customers cars and apply it to your own.

Re: modified lca's (crazy?)
For sure bro
Safety is the biggest thing for me Which is the point of this thread, I had the idea of moving the lower ballpoint up and cupping the control arm and the issue of scrub line Posted via Mobile Device

Re: modified lca's (crazy?)
A little bag rub is too much. What ever you decide to do, be safe. Bag failure is not safe.
