My ignition turns without the key.
Can I fix this or do I just need to put in a new lock cylinder. If I can fix it then I would just assume do that but not sure what would need to be done to it. This is just one of the little things I want to fix before I put the truck back together.

Re: My ignition turns without the key.
How hard is it to replace on these columns. I have changed a few out but never on one of these.

Re: My ignition turns without the key.
It's pretty easy, just need a wheel puller. Probably a 30-45 minute job.

Sounds like something to keep on the down low.

Re: My ignition turns without the key.
Wheel puller & spring plate compressor. Any parts store should have them. Once the wheel and spring plate are off there is a bolt to remove that holds the key tumblr in. Remove that and the tumblr will slide out.

Re: My ignition turns without the key.
Btw you can get door locks to match from places loke classic parts. Then you only need one key.

Re: My ignition turns without the key.
Only real trucks have two keys, why do away with that?

Re: My ignition turns without the key.
I have the same problem.
You guys are talking about a "wheel puller"? So I don't need to remove the bolts that hold on the wheel, I just need a "wheel puller"? Because I can't find a bit that fits the wheel bolts.

Re: My ignition turns without the key.
you can fix the issue one of two ways you can get an after market lock cylinder form a catalog or your local parts store I think they were selling them for about $20 or if you care and want to keep the truck with the original keys you can take the lock cylinder down to a local lock smith with your ignition key and they can put new guts in it and even cut you a new Key that doesn't have as many miles on it, I did and it was about $30 and I ended up with two new keys.
