That rat rod title gets tossed around too much IMO.

Patina does not equal Rat Rod.

I agree with you, to me chevy trucks are like eggs, I like them just about any way possible. Stock, lowered, lifted, patina, pro street, pro touring, resto mod, daily driver, pimped, donked or just plain beater.

But coach is right. Rat-Rot is the most over used and least understood term ever to be cast upon the automotive world, and gets more people stirred up faster than a beehive in a hurricane.

This would be a Rat Rod with patina.

And this would be just patina on a stock '56

This is mine as it was dragged out of a North Dakota barn after 40 years.
This is it now.....haven't touched the body, just wipe it over with an oily rag now and then!

Re: how about some pics of 47-59 "rat rods"

I would only consider the very first picture a rat rod. everything else is just patina'd paint. ratrod is when you add a bunch of garbage to a truck that doesn't belong there.. I like to think of it like when a 7 year old does make up, they dont really know what they are doing so they just keep adding and adding until there isnt any room left for anything else.

When I picked it up it had some old documents in the glove box......from the bits that hadn't been eaten by mice, I was able to find out that it was owned by a LeRoy Abrahansen from Bowman ND.

This. Some cool old trucks in this thread so far, but only one "rat rod" if that's what you want to call it. Me, I'd call it a parts truck.

Re: how about some pics of 47-59 "rat rods"

those are some sweet trucks.
to me the name RATROD gets tossed around alot

the true definition of a ratrod was based of the surfer beach bum
it wasnt anything fancy by far
a ratrod was something that was built from scraps laying around.
everything was made and not bought
im trying to stay true to the ratrod tradition and i use every item that people would throw away and make it a masterpiece

everything on my truckk was handmade and in some way or another was found in a ditch or in the ground
i have nothing pritty about my truck except the hubcaps lol
all my welds havent been cleaned for the acception of a bad paint job
