looking for dash paint info

the metal dash between my pad and windsheild on my 67 is a differnt color green from the rest of the truck witch is/will be the 503 green.I have gotton all the other inteirior & exterior paint #'s with help from here before except this area.
I talked with two differnt paint shops in the area when i got quotes but neither of them could tell me what the excact color green the dash is without a peice to go off of its kinda hard too take a piece of this with me

anybody got a paint code or # for this color? its kinda of flatish green and seems darker than the rest of everything else

is there a perfered place online too buy paints from i'm not knocking the local places i'm just curious? i was told/refered to try a place online called the restoration shop

I'm looking to use the same kinda paint originally on the truck iirc its a one stage urethane

as i'm typeing this i'm thinking dag theres a specific section for this kinda question mods move this if you have too sorry

Re: lokking for dash paint info

Its hard to tell in the picture but are you sure its not just faded to look like a different color as it is right in the sun? You can see the color differences from where the pad was installed to where it wasn't, and those two areas would have to be the same color.

Dude, We already did this in August of last year.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...10&postcount=7

The top of the dash (forward of the pad) color is the "Dark Green Poly. Ditzler 43693 Same as (3)"

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=543350

Remember it is a darker flattened color for glare reduction.

No doubt there is some sun fade after 46 years. Fact remains the upper dash forward of the radius under the dash pad is factory painted a darker flattend color, in this case dark green.

Re: looking for dash paint info

Now that is just plain wrong even if it is true. Actually I almost didn't remeber doing it the first time around. So run over there and point out the unfaded section under the pad as the correct color to him.

Re: looking for dash paint info

thanks for all the replys guys as for my kid well he's just being funny...i hope.

from my pics its really hard too tell the differnce in color plus theres sanding dust on everything that helps it blend in an yes of course it is faded after all them years.

tim, i'm sorry for asking about this again but really what i missed on the first thread was the last line on the chart with the 43693 dark green.
i even checked that thread a couple times since then just to jot down the info an go over it again but i just over looked that code thinking it didnt apply too me. usually i catch every lil' tidbit of info but that got right past me.

one thing i read on this thread witch i completely didnt understand is the response from schrumgmc

scott i hear ya on painting stuff I wont pick colors out for the house without the woman with. I had bought some carpet one time an the i asked the guy at the store what color it was he told me it was a like a sand color but damn as i was installing it i swore up an down it was pink and stopped allwork until i got confirmation that it wasnt pink....thats terrible

well hopefullywhen i go back too the paint storee i'll be fully loaded with ALL the info i need thanks guys

Re: looking for dash paint info

No problem asking again. Rather have it clear than a redo. Besides this is all in fun and education. As far as your kid goes, of course he was joking but we can still give a little jab... after all he is getting older eveyday too.

Re: looking for dash paint info

ok so 3 mo.later i finally had the time too make it too the paint shops while they were open.after i started this thread life got stupid busy.

so i was at the paint shop(s) yesterday an they couldnt find any cross referances from the ditzler codes for both the interior colors on my 67.
i plan on useing ppg's nason line(i've heard good an bad on it)

the only one they could find in any books was the 43693 and it was only formulated in laquer witch was $87.for a pint an that was at the second paint shop i visited an they seemed very unhelpful and bothered by my request.

i hate too bring this back up but does anybody have any mix codes/cross refreances for the two interior colors in anything but laquer?

the guy at the first shop i visited didnt have any problems getting me the extieor colors but was guessing at the interior colors even with the codes what was funny is he did a google search when looking for info an actually brought this thread up an still couldnt come up with anything.

any cross referances for ppg products(what they carry) or any other brands in these colors thats not laquer?

medium green poly 43687
dark green poly 43693

i never thought i would have a problem finding 40yr old paint colors with all the tech in this world.
they did provide me with two samples of his best guess's but both looked pretty far off once i dabbed some on the oe paint that was behind the gas tank for a color check.

i had a choice of starting a new thread in p&b or reviving this one figured i would try this one first......sorry for the story

Re: looking for dash paint info

ok guys heres a up date.

i couldnt get my local shop too mix the interior colors in acryllic enamal so i called tcp global.

the fell'a was very helpful and took my $ and order on 8/5
he said it could take 5-7 days too mix and ship....i was good with that.

i have been waiting on a track# or a call/email since.

sent 3 emails too the fell'a that helped me with no reply.

i finally decided too call on 8/23 all the lines were busy. then they close.
my free hours too call and there open hrs. are only 20 mins apart.

i called 2 more times finally the 3rd call i got through.

the guy on the other line said my order was in the shop waiting a color match for the 43693(dark green) after i was told they have the formula.

it seems too me that they havent mixed this color in there lab before in acrylic enamal(or they would've had it available)

the guy told me that "joe blow" has a oe part with the color that there gonna match. boy i hope they get it right an i dont recieve a "faded green" that i'll have too return.

i ordered these colors a month ahead of time in anticipating painting my interior this long holiday weekend.....guess what i wont be doing. but at least i have PLENTY of other things too do on the truck.

Re: looking for dash paint info

What I did on 'Rose' was paint the whole dash the same single stage as the exterior then wet sanded the top of the dash until the gloss was gone. Looks right, no glare.
