72 rear view mirror. Mint!

This is really nice. I believe it is a factory one year only 72 window mounted mirror. As you can see, the metal housing, mount, and even the reflective glass are in very good condition.

I accept PayPal, and ship to the lower 48 only

$75 shipped

Yes, this appears to be the real deal. It has the word "guide" stamped into the metal, which was GM's manufacturer for mirrors. It is also has that nice heavy feel to it, like my original '69 mirror does. I can measure it when I get back home

Very nice mirror - I may be wrong but thought OEM 72 mirrors had a black rubber grommet around the margin rather than gray....

You're probably thinking of the later in the year government mandated switch to a black mirror. Earlier 72's had a metal finished mirror with the gray border

Was not aware of that switch - My March 72 truck has a black mirror so the switch predated its build.

Here's a 72 brochure showing a steel finished mirror with gray border, attached to the glass of the windshield

I bought one for my 72 on eBay couple weeks ago, and looks exactly like this one. Gray rubber around.

The mirrors from 69 up also had the gray rubber. In fact, the mirror head on 69-72 looks essentially identical, other than the mount.

In my experience you have to be cautious with ebay sellers who may or may not know the application for a particular part. I believe there's a pair of NOS window regulators listed now for 72 that are actually 71 and below based on the part #.

Re: 72 rear view mirror. Mint!

I've never seen a 72 with a chrome mirror, all the ones I've ever seen or parted have had a black one. Not saying your wrong but I'd think I would of ran into one with a chrome one if they came from factory

crapola. just bought a repop a few days ago... For what it's worth, it looked exactly like this, 72 specific, gray rubber.

Re: 72 rear view mirror. Mint!

Ok guys, this has sold to Rugman, and he has paid. I gave him half off, since there seems to be some uncertainty whether this is a repop or not. If it turns out to be a repop, he still got a good deal, and he and I are fine with that. I did lift it from a '72 Highlander, and it has the signs of being original, but like I say...there's some uncertainty and so I'm going to be as fair as I can here.

As you can see from the 72 brochure photo I posted, some 72's came with polished mirrors. Others were black. From what I hear, the government changed regulation mid year to require black mirrors to reduce glare to oncoming traffic. You can even read about this on Camaro forums of the same year.
