Hey Fellas-

Any suggestions on a good shop for an engine rebuild in North Carolina? Looking for somebody who knows 67-72 Chevy's without breaking my budget wide open.

Before you spend a bunch on an "engine rebuild", I'd suggest looking into a GM crate motor. The basic 260 hp / 350 long block can be bought from JEG'S for $1499 including free shipping. A 3yr/50000 mi warrantee for all NEW parts. I would doubt you can rebuild an old motor for much less and you've still got old parts. Plus, a changeout would be far less labor intensive that a "strip and rebuild".

What kind of rebuild are you wanting to do? There is a decent machine shop in Carthage. Or you can even give Rocket Auto in Fayetteville a call. They are pretty knowledgeable.

I recently used the 290hp crate motor from summit and before putting it in added a thumper cam from Doug Herbert and that thing sounded awesome and was really strong.

A few years ago Ihad Johnny rebuild a 366 for me. I got it back with a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty, painted, timed, and even the flywheel surfaced fo $850. He builds alot of engines and if I need another I will definately go with him.

Interested as well as I have a 454 that will need some machine work done. I was referred to Triad Engine Exchange in Greensboro (Bob Stanley) but he wasn't interested in working on big block stuff. I found this place in Thomasville (http://www.bellsautomachine.com/) and he seems reasonable and knowledgeable. I spoke to him but haven't been to see him yet.

Did you talk to Bob Stanley in person? I know Bob and his work is GREAT! Really old timer that knows his work and is around at time is doing a 455 for a friend's son (Dad) past away for us at a better deal then anyone out there period! Go talk to Bob in person and see if he might be interested, I saw a stroked V10 there little over a year ago and he also can build a Killer G/N turbo motor! If you need a transmission guy in Triad area call Danny Smith transmission and tell him Brandon referred you! He builds stock to anything on about anything and is a Great Guy also. Brandon

Yes, I talked to Bob Stanley. I actually went by and spoke to him in person. They were working on a G/N Turbo at the time. Just said he was old, his knees hurt and lifting the big block heads made them hurt worse. Said thanks but he would pass. He recommended Bos' in Greensaboro. I went by there but wasn't that impressed and seemed pricey based on what I was told.
