Check Out My New Hood
Late 60's early 70's Eagle Enterprises fiberglass low profile hood. Super solid and about half the weight of the stocker. Now I can finally lay some paint down on the entire Blazer.

Original ochre. Still unsure if I want to keep the flat black insert on the hood or not.

Re: Check Out My New Hood
I think the hoods came unpainted. Paint color was up to the owner. This hood came off an ochre Blazer that had the feathers decals.

Re: Check Out My New Hood
Interesting hood to say the least. I don't think it would look right painted fully body color, I think it would look best painted with the current scheme, but white in place of the black to match the top, and with the rockers painted white to match as well like in your avatar.

Re: Check Out My New Hood
Where'd you get the hood? I've never seen one! I love stock hood, but that is a great modification!

Re: Check Out My New Hood
I've always thought your was one of the nicer looking trucks on the board.
Is that a chrome cowl, or is it just bare metal? |

Re: Check Out My New Hood
One of my favorites also.
That hood really has a first generation Bronco vibe. Pretty cool. What’s happening to the rest of your Blazer? It looks to be turning black. |

Re: Check Out My New Hood
72Blazerblue - I have been looking for one of these for many years and finally got a tip off the truck board that there was one in Washington on a truck that might part out. I contacted the guy, and closed the deal. These have not been made since the early 70s and are hard to find.
Truckster - Yes, it is a chrome cowl. Another crazy 70's fad. Not sure if I will be keeping it on there or not. Sonosadsack - I have been replacing metal on the Blazer. The black areas are new metal (or clean OEM donner metal) that I have stitched in. No Bondo. It needs some final tweaking and a skim coat in places to cherry it out, and then paint. |

Re: Check Out My New Hood
Could you post a larger pic like the one in your avatar? I've been planning on changing the color of my Blazer, but now that I've got it partially torn down, my ambition for the color change is lagging. I like the white stripe on the bottom, though.

Love the hood, nice score. Great looking truck. Hate the cowl... YMMV.

Great find. Didn't Hickey make a similar hood?

Re: Check Out My New Hood
I like the blacked out section of the hood... If you did't want to paint both colors, you could paint it Ochre and do a matte black vinyl wrap...that way you could remove it later and not have to repaint.... think of it a rock chip protection ...

Re: Check Out My New Hood
Very nice score on a hard to find part, didnt know eagle took over hickey....as said above, a body wrap would be the perfect solution
Looks great on there Wish they made that hood for a '68, looks like ill have build my own You have all the desirable parts on the truck now, great job!

Re: Check Out My New Hood
MikeC - Yeah, I think the chrome cowl will be going bye, bye.
As far as I know, Hickey never sold this hood for the 69-72 trucks. However, Hickey did sell it in their catalogue for the 73 and up square body trucks. Hickey may have gotten the idea for their hood from Eagle Ventures, or bought the patent from Eagle Ventures, or where just selling Eagle Ventures hoods under the Hickey name. |

On the other hand, a chrome tailgate would be kind of cool. The guy behind you with his brights on would definitely notice. |

Re: Check Out My New Hood
Jaros44sr - I will have to check out the magazine and see what is being said about the hood.
As far as the paint, I put my stock cowl back on and extended the flat black patern from the hood up to the windshield with some rattle can spray just to see how it would look. I really like the look, and will probably have the paint shop copy the patern. |

Re: Check Out My New Hood
FYI: I was the owner Eagle Ventures and designed and built this hood. Was a friend/customer of Vic Hickey and when he came out with a low-profile hood for the '72 and later models, tried to get him to offer one for the earlier models, but he wasn't interested so I went off on my own. Intend to post the history of the hood on one of the forums soon.

Re: Check Out My New Hood
BillD - I look forward to learning more about the history of the hood and Eagle Ventures in general. Thanks.
Smoothride - I realize you have every right to state your opinion in this forum. But to add a post just to state your personal intense dislike of someone elses work or truck is pretty weak in my opinion. |
