Re: steering column removal
Don't have pics here at work but you need to unbolt the gasket from inside of the firewall and outside the the firewall you'll find a bracket undo the nuts from the studs and drop the clamp. Hey an avitar finally

Only if its tilt wheel. Otherwise, the shaft is straight through the column to the first joint at the collapsible shaft.

Re: steering column removal
If you are pulling the whole column:
Once you have the column loose under the dash, you unbolt the plate from the firewall and the column, then you unbolt the joint at the collapsible shaft.

Re: steering column removal
I was replacing my steering column on 68 Stepside with tilt steering column from Classic performance parts.. It is supposed to be a model specific kit, but the installation starts off with indicating a 1" DD u-joint for the column end to the steering shaft (cutting it?). However the CPP specs guy said the new column shouold attach directly to the steering shaft at the joint of the collapsible shaft. Does anyone have any experience with this? Does the steering shaft come apart at this collapsible joint?

Re: steering column removal
It does come apart but i reused collapsible shaft cut that end off and used a Billet u joint at that end.

Re: steering column removal
If the steering shaft does come apart at the collapsible joint & supposedly bolts direct to the replacement column, why would you cut it off and use the billet u-joint? That's another $50.00 at CPP (u-joint)?

Re: steering column removal
It comes apart and looks like a t at the end. The other side comes off the splined steering column. They might be saying your new columns splined shaft will fit the female splined on your factory joint. My factory joint was to big so i cut it off and bought a u joint.

Re: steering column removal
Unbolt the joint off the column and pull it off. Count the splines on your new column and count the splines in your joint. If there the same your golden.
