69-70 NOS Grille still being sold???

Ok guys. I'm a bit confused. I have been told that you could not buy a 69-70 Grille out of the parts catalogs with the Chevrolet lettering for less than $800-$1000 since they are not reproduced. I saw another thread (link below) saying that Classic Parts was selling Chevrolet Grillesfor $499.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=574999

I figured it would be a reproduction. Well, I just received mine here in Alaska from Classic Parts and it has a GM parts label on it. What's the deal here? Are they selling GM grilles for a fraction of the cost and just don't know it? The quality is excellent. Anyway, hope it helps someone else out. Saved me a bundle and I almost bought a "NOS" one on ebay a few weeks ago with scratches on it for $560.

Re: 69-70 NOS Grille still being sold???

Truck is in paint jail now I have another question. What is the correct spelling, Grille or Grill? The label says Grille and the catalogs say Grill.

You smoke bugs with your grille and hamburgers with your grill

Re: 69-70 NOS Grille still being sold???

First off, very nice grille...regardless of what it is.

That being said, one clue is the close up picture you posted of the area by the headlight. Notice how there's a black painted vertical notch? They didn't come that way from the factory on the vehicles when they rolled off the assembly line. The paint looked like this:

So, my take is that it isn't NOS, but a good GM approved reproduction... Just as you can go to a GM dealer and buy GM side marker lenses for a 68-72.

I'm sure SS Tim can set me straight if need be

Re: 69-70 NOS Grille still being sold???

It is a service replacement part. All GM repair parts are service replacememnt parts. "Old Stock" may in fact be old or not. Fact is most repair parts are often not production parts. Many often have improvements and adaptions to increase single part coverage. They may be made by a different supplier/s on different tooling to a different print. Function, then fit, then appearance in that order. GM does indeed stock "reproduction parts" as GM parts because they become service parts once they manufactured and boxed to contract specs.
This grill shell is a good example of an improved part and there is a thread if someone wants to run it down. But the ends are flat in such a way as they no longer extend into the headlight door areas. It looks only a little different but I bet production stamping rejects are way down as a result.

I also notice that the little black bars on the top and the bottom go all the way to the headlight trim bucket on yours, but stop a good bit short on the "new" one.
