Is it possible????

Is it possible to replace the plastic piece around where the key goes in the steering column out of an 87? It is severly broken (attempted theft of the truck) and I would love to just disassemble and replace with a good one that I have...

I have two columns, one has the plastic piece around the key busted, but everything else works... The other something is wrong with the harness that runs the length of the column and when in the truck it does some very hinky things, but the column itself is in good shape...

Below is a pic of the piece I am talking about, mine is an automatic not a manual column as is the picture, but I just wanted you to know which piece I was talking about...

Re: Is it possible????

Yeah, you can replace it but you have to dismantle almost the entire column.

Re: Is it possible????

yes, its possible.

These guys should have the parts you need. --> http://www.steeringcolumnservices.co...le-pontiac.php

EDIT: Walk though for column disassembly. These guides are all over the internet, including a fairly in depth article by Car Craft.
