Removing windshield stainless trim
Hey all! Went and looked at two AD trucks tonight. Both are beyond saving. Too sad! One is a five window and a 48 three window. One has stainless trim on the outside of the split windshield. How do I go about removing them without damaging them? Both pieces of glass are cracked. Both trucks are going to scrap soon. I gotta get the good stuff off pretty soon.
Thanks! |

Re: Removing windshield stainless trim
I'd cut the rubber without a second thought. No one would attempt to reuse it anyhow and most likely it is too hard to be able to move it around enough to get the trim out. I wouldn't even do it on the outside first, I'd remove the inside molding and cut the rubber on the inside and take the whole windshield with rubber and trim out and then take it apart. You should be able to cut it on either side with a good utility knife and a few extra blades as the blades will probably get dull quick.

Ya the glass is no good as to is the rubber. The stainless trim is pretty good. The trim is just wedged in the rubber?

He also has this grill for $120. Worth it? It's straight.

Re: Removing windshield stainless trim
Update! I went back to the trucks today. This is what I got for $100.........
-Grill (as in the above pictures) -running board splash apron -front bumper with brackets and splash guard (as in the above pictures) -front fender brace -two running board brackets -windshield stainless trim -stainless trim for inside both door windows -GM heater -two radio delete plates with knob hole insert/bolts -key lock for door -two stainless trim rings for head lights -VIN plate from one cab I think I made out OK. Good pair of guy's to deal with. They have a few pieces of farm equipment that I can sell for them. They have six or seven PCM's out of GM vans and trucks as well as a few BCM's. They have no idea what they are so I told them what they were as well as a bunch of other things so they could sell them knowing what they were. I think they appreciated me pointing things out to them so they could figure out what to ask for them. All in all it was a good time but I wish those trucks would have been in better shape. They should have been found 20 yrs ago. Did I dun good? |

Re: Removing windshield stainless trim
$100 for all that stuff merits a, "YOU SUCK"
Not in a bad way of course. I'm a Task Force guy not an AD guy but I think you did great! Will you keep most of this stuff for your own projects or do you plan to sell some of it? May I suggest you pass on some of your good fortune? NOT saying this for myself, no AD here. Just saying a little paying it forward is always good karma. |

Re: Removing windshield stainless trim
You again Sid?
I'll take those pieces of SS inside window trim in payment for taking all those pictures of your truck! Did you get the ownership with the VIN plate? Nice score by the way, I told you there were lots of parts to be found...even in Ontario! |
