Is anybody running any of the Battery toppers I see or a repop of the OEM batteries. Looking for feedback, pics and good/bad experiences. Right now im leaning towards a topper just due to price. Thanks in advance, and heres a pic for reference

Re: Battery Toppers or OEM Battery Pics

For those that don't know....the battery toppers fit over your aftermarket batteries to make them look original. They also make them for side post batteries. Just makes the battery look OEM.

Never saw one before. Makes for a cool, old look!

Re: Battery Toppers or OEM Battery Pics

Yes, I'm using a "tar topper" cover over a newer battery. When I last looked into buying a reproduction old-style battery, they cost about twice as much and lasted less than half as long as a newer battery.
The thin vaccu-formed abs cover (about $30) fits super close and will fool most observers. Not any battery will do though, the trick is finding exactly the right size battery to fit the topper. I'm actually due to buy a new battery any day now, so I'll post again when I find a perfect fit.

Thanks, for the response. I like the look of them. Can you get us some measurements of the battery topper when you swap out batteries. Im interested in getting one and Im running a battery from O'Reilys. Thanks for the pics too. Doesn't look to be any clearance issues with stock battery hold-downs either.

Re: Battery Toppers or OEM Battery Pics

Also...which one is factory correct? Or are they both period correct?

Re: Battery Toppers or OEM Battery Pics

Is there anything to cover the sides of the battery or is there just a topper? On my 59 the battery sits on the firewall and I think a topper would look silly.

Re: Battery Toppers or OEM Battery Pics

These just cover the tops. I like the look better of the one I posted, but it was for later years. Oem4me's cover is called the "tar topper" due to its obvious look, but it is the correct cover for these years trucks.

I agree that the hard shell covers look a little cleaner/nicer, but apparently it was around 1967 when they went to that style battery.
If your tastes demand the utmost accuracy, you can always go with a complete reproduction battery.
