where to hook up chain for cherry picker

Im pulling my engine /trans out of my 69 c10 and painting the engine compartment.
Borrowed a friends picker and it has a chain. Where do I want to hook up the chain too? Do I need one of those plates that bolt to the intake? It has the stock intake/carb so not sure if the plate would work on that.or can I run the chain through bolts in particular areas.

The lift plates are the cats ass. You can even make your own out of 3/8" plate steel. Make sure you use grade 8 bolts if you use one. If you're pulling the engine and tranny as one unit, using a plate makes it really easy to tilt to make removal a breeze.

You can also use the holes in the front and rear of the heads.

i use a chain going diagonal accross the exhaust ports of the heads has worked good for me on v8 engines the past 50years or so

I go diagonal to the accessory holes closest to intake so the chain doesn't damage the valve covers.

You may still have the factory lift brackets on the intake. Just run a chain through them and yank that sucker out.

I use the diagonal chain method also. Be careful how you position the chain because during removal...Shift Happens

I would think the center pivot would be easier for wiggling and tilting. But it can be done with a diagonal chain.

I figure ill be doing this with various projects so a lift plate for ease of use is a good investment. Found one at autozone for $13, says universal application

Should I assume that this should work with my factory intake that had a 2 barrel on it?
Dont want to drive to go get it if it wont, heres a picture

I've never used one on a 2 bbl, but they do work well with cast iron intakes. Still, I prefer to use grade 8 bolts in the heads (diagonal) because I usually have aluminum intakes and dont trust the threads.

This one claims to work on a 2 bbl and looks like nearly the same bolt holes. You could always drill your autozone plate out, as well.

Yeah , it looks almost identical .im guessing the closest holes are for a 2 barrel. Good point, ill make sure to go the other route on motors with an aluminum intake in place

Haha maybe I should pickup a creeper while im at the auto part store. Lmao , my 1950's wood snap on one with the swivel wheels is killing me!!

ive been doin it for years, diagnal from front side of head and backside of the other
make the back chain shorter to comp for the weight of the tranny

Not to hijack the thread but you mentioned creepers - my Harbor Freight plastic one is comfortable as heck, the wheels roll well on asphalt, and it sure was cheap!

I used angle iron last time and really liked it.
Multiple attachment points came in handy when listing side to side to shoot mounts.

That was creative to use the angle iron.thanks for the tip on the creeper.theres a harbor freight 30min away.ill grab a creeper from there, my back will be thankful!!
