Re: 3/4 or 1 ton trucks on 44s
money an object, i'd go 12" springs in the fr. with cut-outs. 44's look goofy if the wheel wells are'nt opened up some to kind of match the arc of the tire. the rear-depends on whether your hauling with it or not. if money was no object, coil overs on rockwells!

Re: 3/4 or 1 ton trucks on 44s
Maybe it's just me,but why spend all that money on lift & tires for a mall crawler?? Seems like a waste....but like I said before, maybe just me........

I gotta give the OP credit for admitting it from the get-go.

Re: 3/4 or 1 ton trucks on 44s
I'm already building one I'm going to use for offroad this one I'm building to daily drive so no need to make functional. 75% of the lifted truck around here are that way so it will blend in around here.

Re: 3/4 or 1 ton trucks on 44s
dont see any problem with that, other than horrendous fuel bills. sure, aint the easiest, manuvering, parking. daily drove my crew on 38's for 6 mos. till the fuel bill killed me. drove my '71 jimmy on 39's for 2 yrs, fuel was much better (350). just buy mellower tires, & with the idiots on the road nowadays, your way safer in a lifted truck (ask me how, crewcab-1, topaz-0). daily driver lifted 4x4's are no worse than 1/4" from the ground slammed trucks or fast & frivolous rice rockets.

Re: 3/4 or 1 ton trucks on 44s
We have lift laws here in Ohio. That would be a no-go.

Re: 3/4 or 1 ton trucks on 44s
He's lifting it for the look.. Big deal? Some guys do it to off-road, some guys do it for street driving. I like ALL trucks. I don't care what they're used for. People who make fun of guys who drive mall-crawlers are usually artificial themselves. Or they're just hicks who live in the sticks.. Let him use his money his way.
To the OP, I say RIGHT ON.. I, personally, wouldn't go bigger than 40 inch tires with a 12 inch lift. You can find a cheap 12 inch lift and use cut out fender flares to squeaze 44's. Here are some pics of trucks on 44's. This one has a 13 inch lift. no 4 wheel drive, but you won't use it anyway with a daily. This one has a 15 inch lift with a body lift as well This one is more extensive. |

Re: 3/4 or 1 ton trucks on 44s
Wow, I never thought I'd see this much negativity on a forum like this. I'm used to it on motorcycle forums, RC cars, and especially gamer forums, because they're populated with a younger and less mature audience.
I say right on, the guy knows what he wants, and he's willing to spend his hard earned money to get there. I don't think anybody on this board would scoff and laugh at bodywork and new paint, but wouldn't it be just as "frivolous"? It doesn't make the truck drive better, tow more, or get better mileage. It's purely aesthetic. You like a truck that is shiny and looks new, he likes a truck that is taller and looks beefy, both require equal amounts of money.

Re: 3/4 or 1 ton trucks on 44s
To the original question, you might have some trouble finding available tire sizes. I don't know about you, but I think these older trucks demand a wider tire. A 42x13.5 on 22 inch rims looks acceptable on a 2011 Dodge, but I think they look downright stupid on a 1980 K25.
Personally, I like a tire with a width at least 40% of the height, and even wider if I can find it. For example, the first truck is decent, it's definitely tall. But I would much rather have a look similar to the second truck, it just looks more beefy to me, and the main aspect is the tire width. Furthermore, depending on the state you live it, it may even be illegal to have tires sticking out past your fenderwells, or your headlights need to be under a certain height. You need to find the answers to issues like these before you proceed. ![]() ![]()

We don't have lift laws here. As long as tires are dot that's all that matters

Re: 3/4 or 1 ton trucks on 44s
Swamper still makes 44s and well as Pitbull. I found a pic of my old truck, wish I would have kept it. IMO it had the perfect stance....40" boggers, 12" wide wheels, bout 12" lift
