Enlighten me about 5 lug and 6 lug C10's... - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

This could be a dumb question.. But why did Chevy have some 5 lug and some 6 lug C10's? I looked at a 72 shorty today that had 6 lug, and my 71 has 5.. Did they just have some left over 4wd axles they had to use up?

Factory went to 5 lug in 1971 when they changed to disc brakes on front.The 67-70 had 6 lug drums on front.The 72 you looked at was probably an earlier one with later sheetmetal.

67-70 2wd 1/2 ton were 6 lug. 1971-72 went to disc brakes and 5 lug on 2wd.
4x4 were all 6 lug in 1/2 ton

Ok, thanks! The truck I looked at was in a auto salvage yard, so who knows what has been robbed off it and thrown back on over the years. They still use the truck in the yard!
