Re: 58 235i Engine into 48 4400
that must be a later model 235 in the top picture, which is good because it has the side bosses for side motor mounts
you can see them right behind the generator in the top pic the motor is set up with the front motor mount and bell housing trans mounts like what was original to your 58 when you change over to a later trans with the rear mount you need to use the side mounts on the motor the x-member you have looks like a sbc x-member, you could hang the motor and see what modification you need to do to the xmember or just start from scratch with flat plate similar to what parkwood did here and here

Re: 58 235i Engine into 48 4400
Thanks Orge, When I brought the 4400 the guy had set it up for a SBC, I purchased a Crate motor but when I had finished building this beautiful motor I thought no I want this baby for my 58 So hence the swap around.
Orge do you thing the 235 out of my 58 is from a later year again? Ill pull the motor out and sit it in the bay like you said and see if we can modify the sbc mounts to suit I dont want to spend much more if I can help it. Thanks Shane

Re: 58 235i Engine into 48 4400
I'm pretty sure he is saying that because of the side mount bracket bolt hole that you can see in the bosses just behind the generator on the side of the block but they are 58 and up for passengers cars and the same block is probably used on trucks from 58 through 61. There is also always the possibility that someone swapped 235's in the 58 sometime in it's past but matching the engine number stamped in the pad on the passenger side of the block with the vin number should clear that up.
You might be able to fab up a pair of brackets that bolt to the block on the three bolt holes and have the motor mounts bolt to them so that they will fit up with the aftermarket crossmember. That should work fine but might look a bit clunky and you may want to take that crossmember out and build some brackets that run over closer to the frame and use a different and cleaner biscuit or cushion. A couple of the guys have setups like that on their 250's and 392's in the early trucks that would give you an idea or two.

Re: 58 235i Engine into 48 4400
once again i spoke with out knowing the facts
i know the early sbc 265 and 283 v8 did not have the side mounts cast into the block i googled 58 235 and yes they do have the side mount boss cast into the block, all the back to 50 on the I6 your motor may be the original as far as cost? the mounts like parkwood has in that task force truck should be free if you have any 10 ga plate laying around even if you had to buy everything it couldn't cost more than $10 this is why i fab/make everything early sbc without the motor mount boss 58-62 235 I6 from stoveboltengine.com

Thanks Orge. Always helpful!
What about leveling the engine? Is it a matter of a spirit level on the carb face or something Like that?? Thanks again Shane Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 58 235i Engine into 48 4400
So my vin is 3A58A113319 and the engine has Con 4 c248
On one block and "F325J" on a shiny part of the block does this mean anything? Also Any idea what this bracket is? ThanksPosted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 58 235i Engine into 48 4400
F325J indicates "F"lint engine plant 325 engine ser. no. "J" truck engine.
C248 March 24 1958 Block casting number should be 3738307, unique to 58.
