th350 to 700r4 conversion

Ok, i haven't seen a thread yet on doing a conversion unless I am not searching correctly so i thought i would post one, if this is a dupe thread I am sorry. If this isn't a duplicate thread, please post all your tricks and know how so us that are aging have a place to remember and for the people doing a conversion.
So I hadnt gone to pick up my driveshaft for the 700r4 trans I put into the truck so I took a chance and pulled my driveshaft from the rafters in my shop I had stored that came out of my th350 trans and tried to put it into my 700r4 and it FIT. I just have to get it shortened, balanced and new universals installed then i can throw it back into the truck. Then i just have to have a custom shifter cable made that i can adapt to my column / transmission.

Re: th350 to 700r4 conversion

I used a cpp universal crossmember and a TCI 4th lock up harness with the vacuum switch. Lokar makes a cable system for the column shift if I remember ( I used a tall floor shifter to look like a 4 sp). Yes, the splines are the same on th350, th400, 2004r and 700r4. Same trans tailshaft mount also. You will need to run 1 power wire to the TCI harness and a ground close to the frame. An adequate cooler is important and set the mount under the trans and locate your crossmember at 3 degrees down. I used the Lokar TV cable system and their dipstick tube assembly. The TV works great, but the dip tube sucks, use a stock one. I also used a 92 S10 Blazer 4x4 4.3/700r4 driveshaft and its the same length for a suburban/panel with a 700r4 and was $30 another $20 for a conversion ujoint from blazer to 1310 yoke. I had the 4sp out and was driving the 700r4 at the end of the day.
