What is this?
Any clue what this is? It's on the driver side of the block between the two front plugs.

Awesome. Thanks. Any idea where the unit is for the oil pressure gauge?

Re: What is this?
Oil pressure gauge is mechanical, there is no sending unit.

Re: What is this?
... As long as your truck has gauges and not idiot lights, and it connects on the block right behind the intake manifold, slightly to the drivers side of the truck from the distributor.

Re: What is this?
As I understand it, the sender you posted is for the temperature gauge. There is one on the passenger side of the block for the Temp. idiot light.

Re: What is this?
Mine has them on both sides. Of course it's a 40 year old combination of trucks, who knows what has been done in the past.

Re: What is this?
The piece on the passenger side in not for an idiot light. It is part of the Transmission Spark Control system (TSC). This was an early attempt at emissions control. The temp switch provided the ground leg for a relay. If the coolant was below 32°, the switch was open and did not provide a ground leg. The other parts were a switch in the transmission that only closed in 3rd gear providing power for a relay. When the engines was warm AND the trans was in 3rd, the relay sent power to a vacuum switch. The Vac switch allowed the vacuum to reach the vacuum advance can on the distributor.

Had no idea!
Mine has nothing attached to it, but I doubt I'm missing anything! |

Re: What is this?
Most of the TSC part are long gone leaving a unused switch in the trans and unused switch in the passenger head. This stumped me as well, but I actually had ALL the parts, they were just unhooked.
I did sell some parts to a guy doing a concourse rebuild, so don't just throw them out.
