Is It Worth It? (PICS)
I came across this 86 C-10 SWB 4x4, no engine or trans.....body in great shape. Guy is asking $2000, is it worth it? Thanks for any help....I am a 67-72 guy, and have no ideas.

Re: Is It Worth It? (PICS)
comes down to where you are located , here in the rust belt , I would buy it for $2k if its in that shape and I had a good rusted out runner to swap the drivetrain

Re: Is It Worth It? (PICS)
may not be unreasonable up here either but i always like to factor how much more it will take to get it running and then compare that truck to other available trucks in that price range.

Re: Is It Worth It? (PICS)
Around here it would probably be $700-1000. Aside from the engine and transmission is it missing anything else? Transfer case?

Re: Is It Worth It? (PICS)
It depends. Do you have a spare engine, transmission and transfer case? If yes, then you can put together a pretty nice truck at a fair price. If your going to have to buy all that then you will probably spend more on putting this one together than buying a running driving truck. Think it through.

Re: Is It Worth It? (PICS)
Really depends on how much you want to pay and what you're going to use it for. as stated above that's not a bad price if you have engine, trans and transfer case otherwise its going to add up quick. Prices in Oklahoma really are not any different then in Texass and if its really clean 1500 would probably be the max, but between 500 to 1000k is where id try to be at.
When buying it pays to be patient theirs deals to be had out there on these trucks. Good Luck |

Re: Is It Worth It? (PICS)
Thanks guys for all the feedback!! I went to see it, does have a "later" (carb) 350 and trans in it, says it only needs to be hooked up....owner does not know if it runs. The truck is is very straight and rust free, I backed away!! If it had not been JACKED with trying to convert over to a carb engine (wiring was a mess), and all I needed to do was drop in another engine and trans....I would of pay $1500 for it all day!! Thanks again!!

Re: Is It Worth It? (PICS)
Funny the differences of opinion. I'd pay $2k, better for $1500 but if you're looking for one...another deal like that wouldn't pop up. Try buying a nice bed along, or a 4x4 swb frame or cab that hasn't been trashed. Grab a rusted truck for $500, yank the drivetrain and marry the two and you've got a ride.

Re: Is It Worth It? (PICS)
You say would have to Convert to a carb. 86 had a carb sounds like it needed hook up I don't think somebody would have set a motor in and it be a bad one I would of made a offer on it. sounds like a project that was started and didnt get finish me its worth the 2 grand

Re: Is It Worth It? (PICS)
I'd think a truly rust-free, complete Silverado (looks like a Silverado from the pics) 4x4 SWB without a drivetrain is worth at least $1500. Will it sell quickly at that price? No, but how much is it worth if you put a good drivetrain in it? Seems like nearly all the 80's SWB's I see are either messed up (er, modified to some extent or another) or have little life left from being the ideal platform for a good off-roader, and the PO's taking thorough advantage of that.

Re: Is It Worth It? (PICS)
sum of it's parts worth more than the truck. I sold my '87 cheap but it had rust where you'd find it and had some issues. Although it was a fully loaded Silverado 4x4 lwb truck. Power everything. If I got two out of it I would of done a dance. 2k no. Espeacially being south of the rust belt.

Re: Is It Worth It? (PICS)
If it is in as good condition as you say it is and with in driving distance for me. It would be sitting in my driveway right now. Rust free is a bit hard to come by around here in the rust belt. I just paid $750 for a cab alone. There are trucks around here like that but rusted and they want $3500.
Hmmm? Where at in Texas? $1500 would be the ideal price for me.

Re: Is It Worth It? (PICS)
if it is rust free to me its worth 2k+ all day.
all the trucks around me are rusted rotted junk and they still want 5k for them. pm all these 700-1000 dollar rust free k10's because I haven't seen them.

HMMM, I live in LA, and for some reason about $2k for a nice shell seems reasonable to me....I hate hacked up wiring, though.

Okay so these finds were just on a quick search but I don't think any of these are a bad deal and people are always willing to negotiate. These maybe not the best to prove a point being this was on a whim search and like I said the key is patience but if you find something you think is a good deal jump on it. Re: Is It Worth It? (PICS)
I'd try and get him down closer to 1000-1500, use the fact you are going to have to source a drivetrain for it to your advantage when negotiating. Then pick up a beater with what you need and part the rest.
