Cool my 68' SWB resto-mod!

I just picked up this 68 c-10 this afternoon after shopping around for a while and haggling over prices, I got him to where I thought I was getting a good deal.

It is my first project. So it will be a slow process.

The power-train is pretty much done. It is a stock LS 5.3 and a 4L60e and a 3.73 rear gear.

Im still reading and trying to learn as much about these trucks so that I can do everything right the first time.

Current mods:
LS 5.3 V8
4L60e transmission
custom driveshaft
cool air intake
4/5" drop kit from CPP
front and rear sway bars from CPP
Brake booster and master cylinder from CPP
16 gallon fuel cell mounted under the bed.
Chrome 20" eagle alloys on 275/40/20 goodyear eagle gt II (for sale/trade - PM me)
Converted to 5 lug
4 wheel disc brakes
seatbelts

Needs (in no specific order):
- front bumper
-bed floor (not sure if Ill go steel or wood)
-I have some autometer phantom gauges and need help getting them wired up, the only one working ATM is the fuel level.
-some interior/floor work - painting, door panel replacement, bench seat is in awesome condition not sure if Ill recover or not.
-radio
-heater control panel
-all new door and window trim (may be one of the first things done).
-replace the grille -has a 57 grille on it and Im not sure it really goes with the look of the truck.
-side markers
-larger steering wheel (current one is tiny)
-no major rust spots, just lots of surface rust that needs to be wire brushed and then primed and painted.

I DO NOT like the 20s, and the front left actually scrubs on bad bumps. Im hoping to sell soon and get some black steels and some big fat whitewalls.

Post up any recommendations!!!

Thank you
Joshua

Re: my 68' SWB resto-mod!

As long as there's no safety or driveability concerns I'd start with the interior. If you're like me you'll want to spend more time driving it than looking at it. Looks like a fun project. Good luck

Re: my 68' SWB resto-mod!

It drives/stops fine, but my new autometer speedo gauge doesnt seem to work. I don't know why, unless maybe I have a bad VSS, but it seems to shift fine and I think it wouldnt if the VSS was bad.

I haven't really tore into how it is wired yet, it wasn't working when I bought the truck. but is a brand new gauge.

Just a thought, If thats a fiberglass dash insert? does the speedo need grounding?

I bet I know why the speedo does not work....
Wait. Is it an electronic or a mechanical speedo?

Re: my 68' SWB resto-mod!

Picked up some BFG rubber and some 15" cragar soft 8s. Now I need some good looking lug nuts.

Anyone know the thread size?

The ones on the old wheels are too shallow for the cragars.

Also got some interior stuff coming from LMC, and a full rubber kit from PAULGMC.

Making progress!!

Re: my 68' SWB resto-mod!

Got some of the bad surface rust spots cleaned up this weekend, and primed and sanded.

I plan on plasti dipping the entire truck as Im not a big fan of rattle can paint jobs like it has now, and also dont want to fork out big$$ for a regular paint job that will need some more bodywork to even be worth doing.

Pulled out the interior and wire brushed everything and then primed and painted it. Did a little wire hiding and some other nick-nack stuff.

Looking to get a 67-68 grille repro to replace that 57 chevy front bar grille it has and clean it up some.

Re: my 68' SWB resto-mod!

Well, I got into replacing all of my window seals and channel tracks and have issues with both sides, seems like it needs both new vents or have someone rebuild them, might as well get new because the PO got overspray on them.. and both glass pieces have seperated from the track and when I roll them up now they get stuck and wont go back down with the track. neither regulator wants to roll up or down good, I have lubed and greased them and still nothing.

Anyone or any of our vendors that could get this fixed and working properly so i can drive the damn thing???

needs 2 new glass, 2x window vent kits, both regulators, I have all the seals for the passenger side (I didnt even attempt it after the driver side kicked my ass), and the inner/outer seals on the drivers side.

I think that is it.

Im bout ready to sell this damn thing...

Re: my 68' SWB resto-mod!

slight update:

has shorty headers, true duals with super44s on it now. Will be swapping in some spintech super pro streets this weekend. Along with a detroit truetrac, and a new fuel cell with a sump. tired of only getting to use 11-11.5 gallons out of a 16 gallon tank.
