A/C Kit Vintage vs. Old Air vs. Classic Air
So my LQ4 install is almost complete. I have a factory a/c cab and factory a/c controls and I need a complete system for my 72.
So who do you recommend there are a few companies out there. My controls are in good shape but other than that I need a whole system. Which is the best bang for the buck it seams like $1400-1500 is the most likely cost. My questions are quality, durabilty, fit & finish what do you all recommend. Thanks! |

I researched them all and vintage air is the only one that I could find that lets you use your factory controls this may not be a big deal to most but I just like the factory stock look. I went with vjntage air because basically it is exactly the same price as old air. there is a board member Scottshotrods that you can get a very good deal from.

Use your lq4 compressor - get Vintage inside unit, condensor and drier combo, and the right fittings with hoses -- around $1000 that's what I did and I am very pleased

I used classic auto air and use my factory AC controls. The levers don't operate exactly the same as stock but it works great.

Call Justin @ Scott's Hot Rods and order up a Vintage Air kit - you'll be doing yourself a favor and saving a lot of time. He was easy to deal with, knows our trucks well and will get you a killer deal on everything you need. I got my Vintage Air kit from him, so I'm speaking from experience.

I would use Vintage Air. And I would stay FAR AWAY from Hot Rod Air(if they're still in business).

Love my vintage air system. Have been driving around in upper 80s last couple days and it has been oh so cool inside the cab. Vintage air gets it done!

Thanks for the responses. I only have the controls. The compressor was damaged on the LQ4. It was pulled from a wrecked van.

If u want really good cold air do the cab mod on the cowl vent also. Close the cowl vent up completely. Seal it off so no ouside air can get into cab. Then once the system is operating open the passenger side vent to recirculate the cab air. Mine runs 38 degree's now all the time.
