sb400 or 383

Well after seeing my old toy (my 82 chevy) drive by a week ago I realized I miss rodding around in the water, snow, etc. Since my Dodge cummins is only 2wd and my other blazer is a "show" rig that only sees sand or paveent, Im wanting another 4x4 to play with. ive had 350's which are easily found for sale and have 383 stroker in the 1 ton, but what about the sb400? My dad said he had one when he was in highschool and stated that its the best engine hes ever had. So my question is should I try to find a blaze/jimmy with the 400 or would it be wasted time and just one with a 350 or 383.

In theory that makes perfect sense^^^^ haha. Whether I like it or not sometimes my old man knows what he's talking about.

I need to start re-reading everything I write, I look like an idiot with all that grammer in the first post.

Re: sb400 or 383

I had a '72 K/20 with a 400/4spd/4.10s/35" tires and it drove effortlessly. It never broke a sweat. Just rolled along with barely any pedal and got 12.5 mpg. I'd love to find a 400 for my '72 K2500,but decided to build a 383 because I can. I feel I'll have bout the same thing. It's about the stroke. 17 cu. in. is so little difference

If you can find them. When I bought my short block they didn't have any in stock.

Re: sb400 or 383

ive seen a few on craigslist in denver and locally (North Platte, NE). A sb400 in a small wheelbase vehicle like a blazer/jimmy would be pretty fun!
