Better gas mileage
I have a '68 chevy c10 but has a 350 small block. Anyone know if there is a way to get better gas mileage out of it? I know some of the newer vehicles can install a chip. Any ideas?

Re: Better gas mileage
There are many ways to increase the mpg on these old trucks, but don't expect to get as good mileage as the newer trucks that are fuel injected with over-drive transmissions.
You did not give a lot of information about the setup of your truck. Addition of a HEI distributor, headers with dual exhausts and well tuned carb are good starting points. If you want to spend more money you can go with an overdrive transmisson like the 700R4 with a 3.43 or 3.73 rear-end. Many people on here can give you more info on what other things to do to the engine.

Re: Better gas mileage
Like he said you can help it do better but the only way for it to do real good is get a overdrive tranny to get the rpms down on the hwy.
My 69 turns around 2,800rpm at 70 my 06 turns like 1,800 rpms at 70 more or less just idling along. Posted via Mobile Device |
