What a Rip-Off

I spotted this truck a couple weeks ago, it was multi-colored, but pretty straight, at least from the road. Said 2500 bucks, with V8. It then disappeared, and reappeared a few days later , painted black.

They painted it black, over the rust, dents, etc. I looked inside, you can check the tires from inside the cab.

Now they want 3500 dollars.

Owner must have gotten on site to see how popular they are getting, same has been happening on the west coast, prices on trucks and parts keep climbing..

Re: What a Rip-Off

We can thank reality TV for over-inflated ideas on the value of things. Seems like anything that collects dust is worth a fortune and everyone is making money hand over fist. The reality of it, all that TV stuff is staged, with no real proof that they actually sell anything or what the really gave for it.

'Aint no rip-off until somebody lies about it. The seller can ask any glue sniffing price he wants. It's the buyer that will determine it's ultimate worth.

No, not me. The point I meant to make is that the inflated asking price has little to do with it's real value. The actual selling price (if it sells at all) is a better indicator. Secondly, if a buyer is dumb enough to willingly overpay (assuming the seller does not lie about it's condition), then who's getting ripped off?
Buyer beware.

Agreed. Too many guys jump head-first into bad deals without doing any homework. When I see this, I can't feel sorry for the buyer. There are thousands of our trucks out there for sale at any given time, and the range of condition goes from junk to outstanding. There is tons of information available on-line for the buyer to research, yet I rarely see guys ever use this resource when they go to buy a truck. Many people go off of emotion and impulse, and that's when you can get yourself in a heap of trouble.

Sad to say, there will be somebody out there who fall in love with that truck and buy it. If you really do your homework and look around, you can get a much better truck than that one for $3500.

Re: What a Rip-Off

OEM - I 100% agree - it's their truck, they can ask whatever they want. I kind of watched this go down, the original price, then the fifty dollar paint job over rust, dents, etc...I'm not going to buy anything from them. (they often have some cool old cars for sale out there)

Re: What a Rip-Off

Why is it a rip off? Because the price went up with the application of black paint? He painted it, he'll prolly get somethin for the effort. Thats fair.

Thats a bit harsh, maybe it ain't a good paint job but it slows down the rust and looks decent enough to drive. If its a reliable daily driver even $3500 is a decent price for a hard working truck, paint or no.

I don't think its a rip off unless its misrepresented and as wavey as it is, the body condition ain't even close to bein misrepresented by a new coat of black enamel. Sides, if ya don't know what yer doin when shopin, its still not a rip off, yer just poorly prepared to get a fair deal. Buyers duty to make sure he gets what he wants, not the seller.

I can't argue with that at all. It is the buyers duty to research a bit, and not pay too much. I just hate to see someone paint over rust holes, etc...(the pics here don't do it justice - it's really bad), then bump the price 1,000.

This is supposed to be a reputable body shop, and they sell a few old cars as well. Seeing what they did here will sure keep me away. The truck would be worth more to me WITHOUT the extra coat of paint.

I bought mine in about the same condition as the one in question. Gave 1200 bucks for it in late 2011. It's almost rust free now, I wish it was straight, and I don't like BBWs (either kind). More importantly, I'm not trying to sell mine.
