1955-7 with cowl type hood

Anyone have a pic or two of 55-57s P/Us with a cowl Z-28 type hood---I cant quite visualize it and I think it might look pretty good. Thanks

I have to agree with Russel, it just looks too stuck on as an afterthought. Some of those ideas that seemed so good after downing a six pack don't work so well when you see them in the daylight.

I actually like it. I think it would be perfect on a pro street style truck of this vintage. There is a fiber glass manufacturer that makes a one piece moulded hood like this. I know it's not what everyone is used to seeing but it sure gives an old truck some personal flavour.

Maybe if it was wider and shallower. I used to think the chrome vents off a 68 Camaro would look good, until I saw one at a car show.

A lower shorter version of the scoop might work better. More in line with an original SS cowl induction hood but only going 2/3 of the way up to the curve of the truck hood and only a couple of inches high. On the black truck you see scoop than you see the truck under it and don't see one complete package.

I did see a 67 GTO hood scoop once, it looked very good.

I gave serious consideration, but didn't do it, to adding that type of scoop to my pancaked hood and having the scoop only bring the hood line back to parallel. IMO, it does two things. It strenghtens the hood, which on the 55-56 is very flimbsy in the center and it sort of restores the fender/hood line that pancaking takes away, at least from the 90 degree profile. I took 1 1/2 inches out of my hood, have only had it on once, but absolutely love the way it takes the "bulbousness" out of the hood. It looks great at every angle except the 90 degree profile where the fender line and hood line sort of clash. Now before you all get twichey, this is my opinion, based on my eye and my results, but I'm also the guy who thinks GM made the cab 3" too high for the rest of the truck, especially the bed. It might sound bad to say but I'm telling people my slightly redesigned truck is only the way GM should have made it in the first place, not customized.

I agree with speedbumpauto that it may look good on a truck with a pancaked hood.
I pancaked my hood also but seeing as it's a 57 with the spears I don't think any type of scoop will work.
