What are those parts everyone wants?
Well summer is almost upon us school kids. (YES)
In addition to my summer job I figured I'd hit up all the local junkyards to make some extra cash by grabbing parts that people want and re-selling them. What parts should I spend some extra time looking for? So far my lists include: -any year grills that are in good shape -73-74 grill brackets -cargo light switches -clusters if they are still in the truck -bucket seat brackets -good cab trim -sport bumper/brackets Any other items I should include in my searches? Takes a little more time to remove but maybe a bunch of 1.25" sway bars or something. Just trying to make a couple extra bux to buy extra ramen when I start back next August

Re: What are those parts everyone wants?
especially tach clusters if you can find them, center consuls in good shape sell, pront bumper guards the cucv full grille guards have a market, glove box doors in good shape because the plastic hinges break, a fold down cargo light, anything special edition...ie spirit of 76 gentleman jim, beau james 10" ralley wheels, hub caps in good shape, 73-74 grille mounts do have a market but not what is was, used to be an easy 75 bucks for something that cost 10 but they are reproduced now and reasonably priced. hydraulic clutch pedal sets anyone doing a t5 or t56 or nv4500 will buy those an easy 125-175 depending n condition. tail gate bands especially narrow "cheyanne" bands, grab any and all trim thats painted yellow "77" only you can find always a market and its humanitarian to save it lol. electronic gauge clusters . pretty much anything you havent seen or heard of, its been said there is no rarity in um-teen million produced but there are definately parts that are elusive. factory bedrails in good shape factory in bed spare tire mounts

Black and charcoal seat belts usually command a very good price.

Re: What are those parts everyone wants?
The Long AC Compressor they used on the 6.2l. Finally found one at a good price thanks to this thread. New ones just cost way to much.

Re: What are those parts everyone wants?
Don't they all say either "Chevrolet" or "GMC"?
I must admit I have never seen one that said "Chevy" Bet that would sell good!

I work at a wrecking yard where we have 3 nearly identical 89-91 suburbans, that are all in good body shape with exception of one that was hit on the right side. the radiator supports are all good and not rusted. but my question is to DREAMER1. pretty much all the usual parts are available from LMC and/or Brothers. why would you spend the same amount (or roughly the same) for used parts as you could purchase these parts new from one of the aftermarket offerings? also what tailgate bands are we looking for? I have a cherry one on my 86 that is gonna get removed. and one of the trucks that we just got in is a 77 i think with a factory tach cluster in it. I would be willing to ask the boss what his price is for this if any one is interested and can tell me what it is worth on the open market. if bosses price is overboard i wont bother with the work to remove it. we are pretty much what is termed an "insurance quality" yard. meaning top dollar, we sell to mostly upper end body shops and we do not have much walk in traffic. so the boss can price customers out the door if he doesnt want to deal with them. Also, fender badges? are they worth a darn if the mounting tabs are busted? i am a lazy bastard and wont pull a fender just for the badge, would probably take a putty knife to the tabs tho EDIT:: OH and i personally have 4 sets of factory 5 lug rally wheels and one set of factory alloy 'rally' wheels that take the same center caps as the steelies. if any one is looking -Izzy

Re: What are those parts everyone wants?
Are the barn doors the large single doors or the double doors?

Re: What are those parts everyone wants?
For the tailgate thing, I think they all have Chevrolet or GMC stamped on them. For me I would say green interior pieces. Havent seen another square with the green in my truck.

Re: What are those parts everyone wants?
? GM parts are better. The used GM stuff that isnt reproduced is way cheaper at a yard than from any of those places that sell cheap chinese stuff.

Re: What are those parts everyone wants?
Keep in mind, the larger the item, the more it will cost to ship, which means less potential buyers as a result. Body parts can be tough to make money on and sell.

I have had some responses to the extent of my tail gate band that i will be removing, possibly sooner than i had planned. however while moving furniture today (garage sale garbage), I dented it smack in the center just below the tailgate handle recess. so in short, not a lie nor intentional, nor was it the case when i posted the comment above... but i have misrepresented the quality of the tailgate band. Bugger all! but i will send photos if anyone is still interested. -Izzy

BBC 454 A/C Brackets for a 1982 Chevy Crew Cab.
Will any power steering bracket from a big block work? We are changing over from a small block to a big block it has a short a/c compressor.
