Motor Mounts on a 66 with a 350

The motor mounts on my 66 c10 with a 350, look like they need to be replaced. The driver side vibrates pretty bad, has the alternator bouncing around.

Ive never replaced a motor mount and could use some help.
The mounting brackets seem fine its just the rubber inserts that are all cracked up looking. What are the better mount replacements to look for?
Summit has these polyurethane mounts but I dont know if rubber might be better.

Also how do I get the right part to fit what I have?
Looks like this..

I'm not a fan of urethane parts in a street car, I'd just go for replacement rubber mounts from your favorite auto parts store. Replacing these can be easy, or miserable. Essentially you need a way to lift the engine, either a cherry picker or by using a floor jack and block of wood under the oil pan.

There is a single bolt in each mount under the tower that screws into the center of the rubber motor mount. Once that bolt is removed, the engine can be lifted and the 3 bolts holding the mount to the engine can be removed. Reassembly is just the reverse, attach the mount to the engine, lower it back on the tower and insert/torque the bolt holding the rubber mount to the frame tower.

I just did this on my truck and spent 5 hours getting those two bolts started! If I had it to do again I'd drill the holes in the towers slightly larger, and use a heavy steel washer under the bolt head. This would allow more flexibility in getting the bolts started.

In most cases you can get away with doing this one side at a time. This might prove to be easier and safer if you're using a floor jack.

Re: Motor Mounts on a 66 with a 350

Thanks for the info, so on the rubber mounts what do I search for to get the right parts? When I do a search on a site like NAPA it wants to know make, model, year and then the engine options dont match what I have. Its just a 350 on a 66 frame is all I know.

I ended up calling Summit and thats how it lead to the poly part. He asked me which I wanted and when I said I didnt know, he recommended the poly since its more durable and lasts longer.

The rubber part you are replacing is the same whether it's an inline 6 or V8 in those years.

Some guys will remove the whole tower once the engine is lifted up slightly. then remove the rubber mount from the engine. Install new mount to engine, slide tower back in and install the center bolt first, then bolt it back to the frame. I've done both ways and not sure which is easier.

Safety is the key here. However you lift the engine, make sure it is supported well and stable. Doing one side at a time does keep things from moving around very much, but can limit how much room you have to work.

Just replaced mind this weekend. I had one that was broken. I jacked up the motor from the bottom with a couple 2x4 on the oil pan. It was pretty hard to get a wrench/ratchet on them but not too bad.

One thing I noticed is that hole cutout at the base..is there a bolt that connects there? I haven't looked at the base on mine, are there 4 bolts holding it to the bracket?
