64 Porterbuilt Project "Lola"

Well, Sold my square a couple months ago because I was fiending for a 63-66. Spent a month or so looking for the right truck, rust free, SWB, fleetside, bbw. The truck I ended up purchasing was a rust free, swb, fleetside, sbw..Three out of four ain't bad! The truck had been completely torn apart 5 years ago for a full frame off restoration. The bed has been body worked and is straight as an arrow, no bondo either! The front sheet metal pieces including the hood have as been straightened and are in primer. The cab is the only part that hasn't had body work done to it. My plans are a Pancake crossmember, porterbuilt forward arms (already ordered) They will be ready next week! Mcgaughy's 2.5" drop spindles and 5x5 lug disc brake kit (also already ordered and will be here on tuesday). For the rear I am going to basically get a rear dropmember but im going to buy this piece by piece. I ordered a rear extreme notch along with my arms so those will be ready next week as well. As far as paint goes I will be doing a white and turquoise two tone. The truck was not a custom cab when i bought it but i love custom trim so i will be turning this into a custom cab truck. The truck came with a 327 out of a 64 corvette and it was recently rebuilt so it will be staying. I will be purchasing a 700r4 trans but that will be down the road. I am a poor college student who is about to get married in september so this will be a slower build for now until we get settled. Enough of my rambling here are some pictures.

Sounds like a good plan and a good truck to start with.

Re: 64 Porterbuilt Project "Lola"

This is my set up in the backyard. Im going to be putting it together as is with the two PB parts i bought along with the mcgaughy's pieces. I am moving into a new house so i want this to be a roller by the end of the month so i can roll it onto the trailer. The trailer in the pictures came with the truck. Not a bad deal!

Re: 64 Porterbuilt Project "Lola"

Member "Hotcar" drew me a rendering. This is basically what it will look like when it's finished. He did a great job. Thanks again! I forgot to mention in my first post what i will be doing for wheels. Im going to go with Mobsteel's Detroit steel 20" wheel, powder coated white. Cap is to be determined.

Small update. Got my disc brake kit and drop spindles yesterday! I haven't had a chance to open them yet due to my work schedule these past two days but I have tomorrow and Friday off. Porterbuilt should be giving me a call tomorrow or Friday to let me know my parts are ready for pick up. Once that happens its on! Hoping to get the cab mounted and front suspension together by Friday.

Re: 64 Porterbuilt Project "Lola"

and to the site !

I also provided a sketch rendering of what I envisioned my truck to look like when done.
I plan on doibng a side by side photo of that drawing with the truck when complete, just to see how close the realization came to the original dream !!

Rock on, and good luck, looks like you have a pretty solid rig to start with !!!

Thanks! I've been on the site for some time, but now I finally get to contribute to the 60-66 portion of the site. I intend to do the same when my truck is complete.

Thank you. Put it together so that I could get it all on the trailer. It's in storage and will be there for 3 months, unfortunately.

Here is the fiancé. She has been extremely helpful. After 5 hours of assembling she needed a much needed break.

Hmmmmm, am I missing something?
Did you take it all apart, then put it back together?
Are you practicing? LOL!
I am sure that you have a story to tell...

Hahaha, I bought it in pieces. PO took the whole thing apart to do a frame off and lost interest so he left it like that for years. In a way I am practicing. I just moved and had to get everything on the trailer so I could store it. Pain in the ass but I really didn't have another choice. It's loosely put together so disassembly should be a breeze, should be...

Hey another Lola..
Daughter named her truck LOLA cuz we transgendered it from a 3 speed on the tree to an automatic.
Remember the Kinks classic hit L-O-L-A ,Lola..
she wanted classic license plates "Lowla" but changed her mind when she had to buy the tags and plates at DMV..
Gonna have to watch this build progress , looks good so far..
welcome to the fun!!

Yeah, fiance named it. I do know the song. Thats so funny I was showing her the song and she said it was fitting because, as she sits she is a homely "girl". Great minds think a like as far as the plate goes. Had that in mind since she named it. Even went to a site that will show you what your customized plate will look like. I thought I was being extremely clever....
