Paint code cross-reference.

Hey guys,

I have decided to shoot my truck in code 503. A friend of mine placed the order for the paint and the supplier said that he needed a PPG cross-reference in order to mix it. I came straight to this site and did a search and found the information I needed. Code 43523 for PPG. I passed this on to my friend and he called it in. Well, the supplier says this code is for PPG single stage paint. I want to shoot the truck in a base coat/clear coat. I would appreciate any help in finding a bc/cc code for the original code 503. I know its out there because there are too many beautifully painted light green trucks here and they're surely not all single stage paint.

Thanks

Danny

Re: Paint code cross-reference.

You could have mentioned it was the 69 503 light green.

While I am working on this at my end you start at TCP's site.

Use the drop downs for chevrolet truck and then 1969. It will provide the codes. Then go over to the left and pick out what you want for a system or just call tech support. Tell them you want the 503 PPG Ditzler 43523 and need a recommendation for a BC/CC system it will probably be the UB and RC series. Get a system price from them for everything it might work to your advantage.

Re: Paint code cross-reference.

Tim,

My truck cab/chassis is a '69 GMC in Turqoise Poly, rust got the rest. I am build it back as a '68 Chevy. So I am looking for the '67-'68 color. Sorry for any confusion, but one of the charts I found doing the search show "503" as available through 72. Is there a difference in the '67-'68 light green to the later?

Re: Paint code cross-reference.

Here is the hyper-linked interactive version of my screen grab.

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcod...nuf=GM&rows=50

Now if your guy's supplier can't get a good match to one of these numbers find a different supplier or more capable help at his current supplier. A phone call to PPG or email should sort this out in any case. They do have pro help lines for these issues.

In answer to your question this shade ran from 67-69 on Chevy/GMC trucks.

Re: Paint code cross-reference.

Now the 503 shade you want ran from 67-69. There wasn't a 503 for 70, but it returned in 71-72 a Terrace Blue (kind of a teal color).
However in 70 518 (Ditzler 2208) came out to replace it and is very similar.
Now the Longhorn in the pictures is a 69 or a 70 and I don't trust the grill in it as an id. So these pictures above are either 503 or 518 but still give a good feel for the color. But again 503 and 518 are not the same shade.
