More questions about a 72 hard top

I have a 72 Blazer. Does anyone know if the 1st gen tops are interchangable? For instance, will a 69 top fit on a 72 and any year in between. And are the double walls interchangable with the single walls?

Size wise they will fit, but it is the bolts in the bed that are different. Single wall bolts from the top and the double wall bolts from below the rail up.

From what I hear, the double wall are more prone to sagging and cracking. You would also need to drill holes through the bed rail to attach it. If you have side panels in the back they have to come off.

Re: More questions about a 72 hard top

I have a double wall top now and want to ditch it in favor of a single wall. I've had the top off before and it looks as though the holes are all there for both styles.

Re: More questions about a 72 hard top

Some 72's had holes for both styles. Plain old holes are for double walls that bolt from the bottom up, requiring side panels to be removed for access. Single walls bolt from top down, and will have a caged nut below the bed rail to allow removal of top with out removing side panels. They fit the same so use whichever style you want or can find to be in the best condition.

Re: More questions about a 72 hard top

I have a double wall and just had it painted and put new glass in it. Its heavy. I too wish I had a single wall. My rails have two sets of holes, one with cage nuts as described. The single wall is not only a little lighter and easier to bolt down, it also has dome lights. Can't find a more current pic on this computer, but this is my 72 Blazer CST!

Dood, glad to hear it. I acid dipped then rust treated that thing. It should hold up forever! Stop bye anytime, the Blazer is nearly done -finally after 10 months. Should be driving it this week. I have a 72 Suburban still on my car trailer as next winters project! G.
