Re: 69 Longhorn Craigslist VA

Seller claims its a CST/10 with a rare Longhorn bed! So something is wrong. Looks like a regular LWB 1/2 ton to me.

Re: 69 Longhorn Craigslist VA

Tim I'm sure you can answer this but were there any STOCK C10 or 4x4 Longhorns? I have always been told there were none of either.

That's a nice offer to look at it. Not a bad looking truck, price not to bad. I sure don't see that Longhorn bed seam though. Also, welcome to the forum.

No a C10 Longhorn would be really unnecessary. Longhorns were all built on the 1-ton 133" wb then sprung as a C20 or C30 with options for both. The rear axle was the biggest difference between the two and 1500lb on the max GVW rating (that is why I want a C30). As the base C20 Longhorn was sprung pretty light, stepping down more just would not make sense and then the axle becomes a big limiiting factor when someone decides to fill the bed.

4x4 Longhorns were not an option as there were no factory K30 chassies to base it on. By nature the Longhorn was a spare parts solution for a camper hauler that was easy, quick and cheap to get to market.
There are no known "factory" K30 Longhorns but there may very well be a couple of period upfitted trucks as Napco and Marmon&Herrington built kits for the C30s. Been looking for one for years. The are pictures on my profile page and at www.rusticshadessiberians.com/trucks

If you are going to look at it please check for the seam and extension.
While a factory C/10 on a Longhorn chassis is very unlikely as even a special fleet order anything is possible. So here is a picture of a true Longhorn bed showing the displaced front stake holes and extension. Also note the signature seams.
In any case pictures would be great including the glove box option sticker and the vin plate.
In fact if this is all new to you please review (or even print) the VIN and Model decoder pages linked in my signature. Who know maybe you will find a unicorn CE11034. :-)

Welcome to the board.

Thanks for the kind words Gary they really help to think back on when I am dealing with a bad dial-up connection (way too often) or can't find an image I "know" I have after sorting through everything twice.
Actually much of what I use can be downloaded and I have posted links before.

i squinted as hard as i could and i can't see a "longhorn" seam.
he probably measured the bumper too or thinks its a longer bed because he can put a sheet of plywood in and still close the gate.

Re: 69 Longhorn Craigslist VA

First, Thanks for the welcome....

Looked at this truck this afternoon and have uploaded a few pictures. The pid is there but has been painted over, vin intact. Would make a great parts truck...
Could this be a "homemade" Longhorn??????

Re: 69 Longhorn Craigslist VA

Cab swap it the first thing that comes to mind. Without seeing the frame and some section height measurements can't really tell you more. The bed is wrong for any C10 and 8-lug is wrong for any C10 period. Since I can't see anyone stretching a C10 frame then putting an 8-lug axle under it I'm going with "Frankentruck" C10 cab and VIN on a Longhorn, C30 Stepside or C30 Chassis Cab chassis. Beside the whole VIN transfer issue there is the fact this truck is close to its max titled GVW as it sits, empty! At best this is really just a parts truck.

Underside pictures are a must see.

Measure frame section height.
C10 6.04" height 2.53" flange width 0.156" thick
Longhorn C30 6.11" height 2.46" flange width 0.194" thick

Frame stamped partial VIN is in two locations.

Re: 69 Longhorn Craigslist VA

It's obviously not a C/10. The front end is 8-lug,too. It has had paint and body work. My guess is it's a Longhorn and when they repaired/fixed-up the body they replaced the crappy original bed with a modified 8'er. The cab may have been swapped, too, but it looks like that VIN-plate is glued on. They probably ground the back of the rivets off. Possibly needed a title

Would there be an rpo for a napco type conversion? I am guessing no but then perhaps some sort or documentation? This intrigues me.

To the op - decent price for what appears to be a decent truck from the pic. Oops maybe parts

Re: 69 Longhorn Craigslist VA

Being a post-factory conversion there would not be a SPID RPO for conversions such as NAPCO or Marmon & Herrington offered. If it was done at a converter vs using a "field kit" there might be a ship through designation on the build sheet. Fender badges and modifed floor/frames for the conversion are typical but undatable. Did you look at any of my site's posted pictures Spartan?

I did check out your site. I didn't snoop around much. Love all your trucks I really love the M&H pic comming towards. I noticed it said "all wheel drive"... Obviously I need to do some research. This is the stuff keeps me interested in truck - institutional and special order work.

Thank you Tim. I'll PM you if I have questions. I think a 1T Longhorn M&H with clearance... If one exists or not would be quite something.
