How hard is it to replace vent window glass?

I have a pair of nice chrome vent windows but I want to put tinted glass in them. How hard is that to swap out? Are they just glued in there?

Re: How hard is it to replace vent window glass?

When I rebuilt the vent windows in my K10 I took them and OEM tinted glass to a local glass shop and had them do the glass install. The glass is held in place in the frame by a C-shaped strip of rubber. It wasn't pricey.

Re: How hard is it to replace vent window glass?

Really easy if you are just replacing glass. Use a small flat tip screw driver and work the top and bottom and then move to the corner. It will slide out. You can get a roll of window cork tape stuff for about $3.

I have seen some people reuse their old rubber gaskets. I bought the cork tape stuff...found it to be difficult to work with and ended up picking up some thin rubber matting, cutting it with some scrap book cutter think then heating it with a heat gun and just slid the glass right in.

If you are ever going to replace the entire vent window assembly....you will need a large tube of patience! LOL

I removed some glass from the frames but still haven't installed any yet.

I used a heat gun on the frame and I think it helped. Use a blunt type tool and gently work the glass out.

You'll know if you made a mistake or handled it too rough as your window will now be in very small square peices everywhere.

Re: How hard is it to replace vent window glass?

Thank you both for your help. I think I have an old one I will try it out on first.
