Adjusting door with fender on

I really don't want to take my fender off cause it was a b to even put on. But now I have to move the door forward. My question is does the door hinge wrench work on our trucks. I know worse come to worse ill take the fender off.

I tryed using the hinge wrench but found my ratchet wrench worked better. you get a very short throw, but it can be done.

Re: Adjusting door with fender on

I think I did that once. I know I replaced a top hinge already with door and fender on.

If I recall, it does take a while as you can only turn some bolts a little at a time. Fun, fun, fun.

Bobs,

Are you saying that you can take off the top hinge without taking off the door? I need to replace the hinge pin on the top one and have been dreading taking off the door.

Thanks

Re: Adjusting door with fender on

No i just need to loosen the bolts that are under the fender so I can move the door towards the core support. I put my latch on last night and when it latches it so tight I cant even open the door. so I have to move it to get a bigger gap.

Why didnt anyone tell me to never take my doors off !!! HUH

Re: Adjusting door with fender on

Here's the real question - can I replace the top hinge pin without removing the hinge?

Re: Adjusting door with fender on

You probably can if you remove the door and leave the hinge attached to the cab. I'm not sure about clearance issues getting the new pin in though.

Re: Adjusting door with fender on

How much forward is it if it just a little you can shim the door between the hinge with body shims

Re: Adjusting door with fender on

There are usually shims behind the latch mounted to the door post. Take those first if any. If not then fender off. Because you will need to adjust your gaps. Maybe even the cowl gap will need to be adjusted also after moving the door forward. Just did this on a 72 Blazer.

Yep, I did it. Just support the back of the opened door with a jack or blocks of wood.
