68 GMC 327/700r4 location questions
I have my 327 bolted in along with my trans. I know from reading a previous post that I am using the 6 cyl stands in the 6 cyl position. My truck used to be 6 cyl so I had them anyways and saw that they bolted up and never thought anything more of it until now. With the trans bolted in I just put my driveshaft in the trans end just to see what modifications would need to be made. With the shaft in as far as it can go in the tranny my driveshaft is about 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" to long. So my question is if I unbolt everything and and reverse my stands from the way they are now and of course reinstall my trans crossmember will that be enough for my driveshaft to go back In without modifications? Also I'm going to have HEI so the way it is now it might be touching the fire wall once I put the cab on? So I'm just wondering if that is what I should do. Better to do these things at this stage rather than farther down the road. ThanksPosted via Mobile Device

You need to move your motor 2 to 2 1/2 inches forward. Push the yoke in all the way then pull it out 3/4 to 1 inch then measure at the rear to see exactly how far ahead you must go. You need the 3/4 to 1 inch play for suspension/rearend movement.

The difference between the I-6 and the V-8 using the correct respective parts is 3.82" at the back face of the block.

So if I remove my engine stands from the engine and put the one from the left and put it on the right and vice versa will I gain enough room? Maybe still have to shorten the drive shaft to allow 3/4" to 1" room in the tail shaft on trans?

get the right small block V8 stands, slide everything to the forward holes.do what geezer#99 said to get your driveshaft measurement. everything will be right. the hei wont be hitting the firewall.

I have a 327 on the I-6 stands with HEI. It clears the firewall.
