Tie Rod End Question

Installing a tie rod end rebuild kit on the '59. The threaded plug didn't want to go in any further. I assume this isn't a good thing. Any suggestions?

thanks

Re: Tie Rod End Question

Are you sure that you removed all of the original components? FSM shows a plate, spring, first half of ball socket, the ball, second half of ball socket, and the threaded plug, starting from the inner most side. I believe from looking at the pic in the FSM that the two halves of the ball socket must be oriented correctly to fit in. I can scan the pic and post it if it will help.

Re: Tie Rod End Question

Check the thread where the cotter pin holes go through the end they are probably boogered up. you may be able to work the plug back and forth with a big screwdriver.
If that doesn't work see Newkingfisher's post.

Re: Tie Rod End Question

Thanks everybody. I figured it out.

The kit came with inner 3 spacers; two short, one tall. I used a tall where I should have used a short.
