Mono block amp with two 10" subs?

Right now I'm running two mtx subs off a 300w phenox gold amp... I want a little more out of them.. Do I have to run a 2 channel or can I run a mono block?

Re: Mono block amp with two 10" subs?

You can run a mono block as long as the load of the 2 subs isn't less than the minimal impedance of the mono amp.

2 subs @ 4ohm each run in parallel = 2ohm load at the amp for 1 channel. If the amp is 2 ohm stable, you are good to go.

So depending on what subs, what amp, and how you wire them together, you can certainly do it.

Re: Mono block amp with two 10" subs?

How would I go about wiring a mono block into to subs?. Do I run from the amp to one sub then from that sub to the second one?

Single or dual voice coil?

If single voice coil (assumed in the first response I gave)

Run + of the amp to the + of each sub, - of the amp to the - of each sub.

Wired this way, two 4ohm subs will be a 2ohm load on the amp. If the amp can handle a 2ohm load.

But since I have no idea what amp or subs you have, I am making a guess that the mono amp can do 2ohms and that your subs are single voice coil 4ohm subs.

How is your amp wired now ? you might get some more juice out of your amp by bridging it to mono and wiring the two subs in paralell provided the amp can handle the lower resistance.

It's been about a week now, have you ran this set up? I only ask because this wiring puts the load at 1 ohm (given you have 4 ohm 12's) and you have to have a pretty decent amp in order for it to handle this. If it's not 1 ohm stable it will constantly turn off or worse, burn out.
