My "Heavy Hauler"

I've asked quite a few questions on here the past month or so, I finally got my heavy hauler on the road and took its 1st road test today, Found out the tank now needs to come off and be sealed, and I got a wheel cylinder leaking but over all everything is in pretty decent shape.

Truck has a 292 4 speed, 2 speed rear, 58,000 miles, I'm the second owner I got it from the man who bought it new. when I got the truck it had been sitting in a barn for the last 22 years. I'm learning just all the stuff that can go wrong with a vehicle from just letting it sit. and I know its the wrong grill, its off a C-10, the c-60 grill was bent so till I can find something another the c-10 grill will have to do.

Re: My "Heavy Hauler"

Its a flatbed dump, so an occasional load of gravel, and maybe haul a little hay every now and again, mostly though its a toy. I've always love the big trucks so I'm gonna rework the bed sides, paint and body work.

Re: My "Heavy Hauler"

Looks good. The 292 is one of my favorite Engines. The 2-Speed Rear will be nice to have. The C-10 Grille actually looks real nice in there, although I believe they made them different for the larger trucks for better cooling purposes.

Re: My "Heavy Hauler"

A quick update on my truck, After completely rebuilding the brake system to include all the metal brake lines, I had a pushrod bend due to a sticking valve, Think I have finally gotten that problem fixed, so the last 2 days have been working on the new pressure treated bed sides, its slowly coming together.

next will be doing body work, and hopefully get it painted before the summers over!

Re: My "Heavy Hauler"

Nice. Am I going crazy, or does it have NDCC's on the back? (Deuce and a half tires.)

Re: My "Heavy Hauler"

Yes it does, the tires that were on it when I bought it were dry rotted beyond belief, I checked on a new set and just for the rear was gonna be over a grand, So I have a buddy that has a duece and he went with super singles and 54" tall tires on it so he gave me the old tires on it, he had siped the NDCC tire's, he said it gave them better wet road abilities, I can't complain there were free. they are 9.00-20, so not much bigger than stock.

Re: My "Heavy Hauler"

Huh, neat. I always wondered about that, given how cheap the surplus tires are.

Re: My "Heavy Hauler"

Looks sweet! What's coming up next? I dig the flatbed and the tires. That would be sweet a NICE car hauler with a rollback and a duramax or a cummins.

I have a low mileage 454, that will probably wind up in it, gonna play with the 292 for a little bit 1st. but I guess the next major work will be body work and then paint, also I want to have the front bumper chromed and I have a factory aluminum grill and then 22.5 wheels. it will all come together slowly by surely, LOL!
